Because... even a small hand asian woman will buy big screen phone.
In asia, phone might be the only device that connect a person to internet. think about US$100 salary/month or $200/month or $300/month. So, 90% of asian will the phone as big as they can. because small screen = less usability.
In summary...
No one want small screen in asia.
Big screen with less cpu power is better than small screen with more cpu power.

I beg to differ. I've used Oxygen OS for a long time and been using MIUI for a while now. Although I love the Value for Money I am getting from a Xiaomi Smartphone, It has absolutely awesome specs and that too for a way less price than all other competition, I can surely say that Oxygen OS UI is way smoother, better and flexible than MIUI.

Gsmarena's endurance rating is 125h for Note 9 and 127h for 9s
Note 9s/9 Pro replace Note 8 Pro, isn't more powerfull but has a bigger battery

What is the function of "Note" name of Xiaomi product while almost all of 2020 Xiaomi product line has big screen? There's no smaller screen variant from Xiaomi now. All product have more than 6.5 inch screen and more than 190g weight.
Not all people has big hands especially asian women. There sould be more compact variant like Samsung Galaxy S20, Huawei P40, and iPhone 11 Pro.
