I use Tmobile Mobile Internet Data only plan on my Huawei Mate 20 phone so its not a big deal. Most of the calls I made are from Google Voice, Skype, Messenger, Kakaotalk, Viber, etc.

If you want to check your IMS Service Status, just dial *#*#4636#*#* then click Phone Testing, then the 3 dots in the upper right, then IMS Service Status. This will tell you if your phone is currently supported by your carrier to handle VoLTE.

I don't really care about voice - I always use WhatsApp or Messenger as most of my calls are international. Guess we'll see. Don't really want to trash my $300 xiaomi note 8 pro I bought 6 months (not in the US)

I bought a Samsung Galaxy j7 (j730g) 2 years ago.
It is supposed to be 4g and has all the neccessary bands but my carrier which uses tmobile has informed me that my phone is not volte enabled and service will stop in January. Manufacturer has said that my phone does not have volte but many independent references say it does.

I'm pretty sure you can't even sideload any Goodwill services to them and work anymore and even if you do once Google recognizes it or the apps themselves they shut down thats a waste of money

the problem isnt finding a volte enabled device.
the problem is telecoms require said devices to be whitelisted even if they are capable. who knows what business deals and softblackmail theyll require from manufacturers to bend over.

Bands 12 and 71 are good indicators that VoLTE or VoNR will work on T-Mobile since those are their extended coverage bands. LTE 2+4 or 2+66 aggregation is a good sign too, since that is used in highly congested areas where 2G/3G would be futile.
Of course, having VoLTE/VoNR doesn't mean it works. Certain brands have specification sheets that the products can't live up to.

All this means is that your phone must support 4G LTE. It can still support 3G, like most new phones still do. But it can't be an older 2G- or 3G-only phone. Unlocked has nothing to do with it. Most people don't have to worry.

Considering my wife's Huawei Mate 20 Pro has the capability to use VoLTE and VoWifi but the T-Mobile SIM in it doesn't enable that feature, they BETTER be good with ANY phone that has the capability and the bare minimum 2/4/12 LTE bands. Otherwise, I will be really upset since I changed carriers to them back in March.
I know I am due for a new phone from the LG V20 I got from Sprint (Asus ROG 3 is looking good but I'll be waiting for the Zenfone 7 pro or if Huawei's got a Mate 40X up its sleeve) but my wife's phone works perfectly fine so she shouldn't HAVE to get a new phone.

I wish this would have came out before I decided to buy the Poco f2 pro.... Would have got a s10 or s105g... Hell, maybe even a op7 for around the same price. >.>
