if you wait latest upgrade you can wait for eternity and beyond. because after wp 8 , some months later you have WP9 WP10 (i dont know future version numbers). The purpose of smartphone is not "upgrading" but using it . Buy a smartphone with functions you need and if you have such smartphone , keep smiling and enjoy it.
carnage, 26 Jun 2012They are not stuck. The android and iPhone users always have a chance of up-gradation. If the ... moreAre you sure about that? My friend's Galaxy W didn't get the ICS. He flash it using custom ROM. And guess what? He revert back to GB because so much problem on that custom ROM.
Anonymous, 26 Jun 2012"WP8 enables multi-core support, higher resolution screens, NFC, microSD card support and... moreEssentially yes, however I think Microsoft has now learned the lesson, as well they should considering Windows phone 7 did not exactly set the industry alight.
Though I'll admit windows phone 7 was beautifully designed I never really considered it, due to the limitations in place. However a Windows 8 device with a Snapdragon S4 processor, 720p screen, pureview camera and SD card support??? Now that may be worth taking a look at.
Crosbog, 26 Jun 2012Microsoft is nothing without their windows pc. I hate them. I love symbian and nokia. I still ... moreGreat joke ... come out from your Nokia dreams and look how beautiful the world is with out Nokia.
vic_msn, 26 Jun 2012Instead of naming it WP7.8 MS should have announced that existing phones will get WP8 upgrade ... moreMew ... people usually mad when the company lying to them. And now you suggest a company to speak a lie? Is it true that people prefer deceived rather than told the truth? Wow ... just wow ... (-_-)a
Why people here blaming the Nokia lumias?
Tell me a single Sammy or HTC WP 7phone which will get WP8 update. It's a software fault by MS.It's due to the changing of kernel. Also WP7 has few customers. So it doesn't matter. At least Nokia providing some exclusive apps to their lumias, but what did Sammy and HTC did?? Till now, Nothing.
"WP8 enables multi-core support, higher resolution screens, NFC, microSD card support and so on, none of which will make a difference on the legacy hardware"
So essentially, the first windows phones that came out were crappy?
i can't wait for the new lumia windows 8 and pureview.i have talked with a guy from nokia at a training,i work at orange romania, and for this autumn nokia is preparing for sure a new range of lumia-pureview devices:hd 720 p screens, 4,5-4,3 inch, dual core and a quad core models, over 20 mp cameras, full hd video. windows 8 on mobile is supreme,it is awsome.i have played at a prototype and this is the future. all the screen squares are alive, are changing, the flow is incrdible. asa a fan of apple o.s.,i can say that windows 8 will steal many apple customers, including me.internet is like butter super splash speed, all experience is orgasmic
nnt, 26 Jun 2012But how old is the lumia900? Just 3 months for global version, is it correct? Is that fair tha... moreright. nokia is the best when comes to dead on launch. see N9 and now, lumia 900 with wp7.
At first I thought it was because of the new software that it was necessary that new hardware be used, Qualcomm needed to modify its CPUs (Snapdragon plus) to work with WP8. But what are they talking about? WP8 won't bring any improvements to legacy hardware? Maybe now coding will be easier, so the marketplace will be full of new great apps that legacy devices won't be able to run? Ever thought of that?
I can't accept Microsoft's reasoning...
The only people who will push Windows Phone 8 are the current Windows Phone users. Having isolated them from the platform by leaving them with WP7.8 Who will champion the new OS ?
Does Microsoft expect all the users who purchased a WP7.5 device to automatically drop their (near) new phones in favor of WP8 ?
Nokia sent out several (free) WP7.5 devices to their developers to get them interested in coding for Microsoft's platform. Are all these developers now expected to purchase a new WP8 device to continue making apps for the platform ?
We can understand that WP8 will take advantage of multi-core, HD displays, NFC etc... But we cant accept that WP8 will make current WP hardware obsolete. Unlike Apple which has one device WP is expected to satisfy a wide audience - This will include Nokia's emerging markets. Does Microsoft immediately expect everyone to own multi-core smartphones? No way.. I am sure there will continue to be single core handsets at least in the coming year or so.
I think the more likely reason is that it will take alot of work to flash current phones with WP8 and Microsoft/Nokia are not willing to put themselves through that...
Microsoft is nothing without their windows pc. I hate them. I love symbian and nokia. I still use a nokia phone. Windows is nothing bt a shit 4 nokia. Maemo is way more better.
microsft want to kill nokia.if no have update for nokia lumia nokia die
I dont think alot of you even read the article .
Never seen so many crybabys in one place.
Microsoft did the only thing they could have done.
And why are you so fanatic about updates ?
You still gonna get updates ,just dont thngs that your old phone can handle.
I have a SGS2 and its the same there.
People cry in forums and cant wait to get ICS.
And for what ?
GB was better,more stable,better batterylife.
Its the same with ios.
Not all features from new OS work on older phones and Iphone is almost the same hardware since Iphone 1.
Microsoft should had said that all gets WP8.
But NFC and so on dont work on WP7.
Then they wouldnt had this shitstorm.
1 thing that i dont like is that apps for wp8 wont work on wp7x witout extra work.
But even my 3 year old kid understands why.
Jon (Swe), 26 Jun 2012I do understand that some WP7 owners will feel abadonned in the app-department.
But on the ot... moreVoila!! One of the most sensible comments that I have com across in a real long time other than just moans, rants & raves!!
Nokia is dying
RIM is crying......& all that truckloads of pure BS!
Microsoft your just kiddin..
You restricted all wp7 hardware specs, and then telling it now that due to hardware restriction you made for all wp7, it is now the problem why wp7 devices should not be upgraded to wp8? that GR?SS
