There's always someone going on about degraded battery. The battery is going to degrade anyway. Slow charging isn't going degrade the battery less quickly. It's still going to die in 2-3 years and you'll still have to replace it. Faster charging is here to stay because who wants to wait hours before being able to use your phone again?
