That's not new at all. It's won't even be named as Exynos 990 I guess.
But I doubt it will be better than even SD 865 let alone the plus version unless they use the Mongoose M6 and that's not gonna happen.
Make 3 CPU cluster like Qualcomm. Clock One mongoose at 3.0GHz and other 3 at 2.3GHz. This will destroy SD865.
But That's not gonna happen I guess.
Samsung again will stupidly clock the A55 at 2.0GHz which is no use except for power drain.
Better? Compare E990 with SD865. E990 still has A76 cores while SD865 as A77 cores and obviously, higher number the better.
What Samsung should easily do is modify the E990 for the Note20 to have A77 cores and replace the Mongoose M5 with an overclocked A77 core since A78 and X1 aren't available yet. Also add more cores for the Mali GPU.
Better than snapdragon? Best joke ever.
Plot Twist: they are underclocking sd865+
Note7 owner, 29 Jul 2020Samsung says this every year but in reality Exynos versions are always less desirable. From s1 to s8 the exynos was superior.
AnonD-947580, 29 Jul 2020Honestly, I feel that this is just a PR stunt in an attempt to get people to preorder the phon... moreit's way more powerful than s845. Just poorly managed and with power hungry cores.
Learn what you are talking about.
Improved? Good. Improved so much is better?.... ummmm. Nah.
But there honestly was ready room for a large margin of improvement.
For one reworking the scheduler and limiting peak cpu clock would help.
For another large improvement they could have used a higher core count at lower clock rate for the mali gpu and seen great gains.
Samsung Propaganda
iRajApple, 29 Jul 2020If Improvements were that big they would have renamed it as Exynos 995 or 1000 Surely this... moreSurely a PR stunt. Desperate times desperate measures by Samsung via some random Twitter user!
Note7 owner, 29 Jul 2020Samsung says this every year but in reality Exynos versions are always less desirable. That's not true. Exynos was always clearly superior to Snapdragon for a while until recently. I still remember comparing my Exynos Note 7 to the Snapdragon Note 7 and the Exynos wiped the floor with the Snapdragon version in every way.
The difference between SD and exynos is really noticeable.
Exynos 990 is not even better than SD855+ and now Samsung is claiming it is better than SD 865+ in Note 20!!!. Its just to improve their Sales in Europe, UK and India nothing else.....
But no more Samsung for me until they give SD version in my region or it is proved that the exynos chipset is better than SD in all aspect....
To be honest, performance wise Snapdragon is ahead and that isn't going to change. If the improvements were that big they would name it 995 or 990+. There are overheating issues and battery performance issues as well with Exynos. All they are doing just optimising it or may be doing nothing but just going to do marketing that they have optimised it better than Snapdragon. That's the harsh reality.
Anonymous, 29 Jul 2020The 990 is worse than the SD855, who are they kidding that an 'improved' version wil... moreActually I don't think it will be able to beat even the 855 chip.
Honestly, I feel that this is just a PR stunt in an attempt to get people to preorder the phone.
I would wait for the Youtube and Tech reviews of the phone - especially the comparisons of E990+ to SD865(+).
I doubt that there are any noticable improvements over the regular E990 chip. It has the same performance as the SD845 meaning it's several generations behind the newest SD-chip.. They can't fix a broken chip just like that. It's a hardware issue and to solve it, they need to totally abandon the Exynos chipset. It just can't compete with SD-chips.
The 990 is worse than the SD855, who are they kidding that an 'improved' version will surpass the 865+? Samsung could release a 5nm SoC but with Mongoose big core and Mali gpu it will never be better than the 865+, at best it will beat the 855+ by a tiny margin while being more battery hungry.
Good joke Samsung
I'll believe it when I see it.
Kirin and Exynos are already 1 generation behind the latest Snapdragon - currently as powerful as SD855.
