A brand getting more than 75 billion dollars in government subsidies, to undercut the competition, sells "well"? Colour me surprised! I bet even I would be able to sell a couple phones if I was handed 75 billion dollars.

I'm glad to see this. The US has been trying it's hardest to cripple Huawei for purely political reasons. It's deplorable. Hopefully justice will prevail.

Woah didnt see this coming. Guess their target to become No. 1 in 2020 achieved.

Lucky because of the pandemic. Still, without GMS, they will surely back to 2nd place. Appgallery is growing, but at the moment, still not enough for mainstream users. The rest of the aspects? Huawei phone is a Beast.

[deleted post]Well to be correct the sales improved only in China where the government basically made its own people to buy from Huawei.

Sales in Europe fell a lot. I sell phones for a living and we barely sell newer Huawei phones due to lack of google play services. Mostly due to mobile banking apps. Its not even about gmail or youtube.

Most people now only buy older p30 series models. These make up 90% of all Huawei sales at my work. But eventually the hardware will be too outdated to keep this up. Hell we even re-released the p30 pro 3 times. Either with new colors and now even the p30 pro "new edition".

The most sold phones are the a51, a71 and iphone se 2020 midrangers by a huge margin.

The reason HMS is not as good as GMS right now is because Huawei were caught off-guard. But when Huawei able to catch up, it will be big...

                My thought is...
If it can have 300 million MAU (Monthly Active User)
It will survive as the third platform (or second platform)

Other branda need to take Huawei's customers, right now is the chance. When Huawei grows too big, it is time for other companies to cry

Huawei just needs to keep distinguish itself from others in order to appeal to customers even without GMS. and from their profit, build their own ecosystem even better and one day, Huawei phones are easily recommendable. Other companies, this time is your chance, make good products and don't let Huawei grow! If you do, theor HMS will be too capable and they don't need GMS, you guys have no hopes. It is only a matyer of time. When the King is dead, don't sit still, keep pushing (especially lazy companies like Apple) boundaries to appeal to customers, so Huawei wouldn't have anymore loyal customers by the time HMS is ready. Huawei meanwhile needs to play safe and keep growing their HMS, once it is fully grown, it will be the third choice of Mobile Operating System besides IOS and Android. Good luck!

At least Samsung can adapt to fight the Chinese brand.
But as of now, I think it would be even harder for Samsung to fight the Chinese brand because when economy hit, people will try to buy a more affordable alternative.

When Huawei's HMS has all the apps people use, it will be competitive with other Software services. And they will be unstoppable. Making own hardware and software means better integration between them. Huawei, stop using AOSP android. Hurry and introduce your Harmony OS! THEN WE, as a consumer gets more choice to choose from. And for other companies, it drives them to innovate harder to appeal to customers. More options and competition is always great. Otger companies should follow suit in Huawei's path, so if one day google is cut tied with them, they are fully prepared. Good luck for all brands to keep pushing innovations that truly matters and don't just increase prices for useless features!

Nationalism. The people in China are showing support for their own. That wouldn't happen in America. People here buy iPhones because they want an iPhone. It's not about America, standing up for America or sticking it to another country. Americans are too vain for that.

I wonder if Huawei's CEO still buys apple products for his family or if his daughter still uses Apple devices while she is in Canada?
