"The Black Shark 2 supports an always-on mode - Ambient display - and oddly you can't turn it off. It's either always-on or shown only when you pick up the phone if Lift to Wake option is on."
And gaming phones are the retarded members of the family, they could be excellent regular phones, but they are so focus on games and nothing else that they lack tons of things, including decent camera setup.
Still doesn't excuse OnePlus for lacking one of its most requested feature since years.

Anyway, the smartphone market is literally the worst tech market I ever saw, it look like every company try to figure out the worse tech they could put and the best tech they could ignore/remove from smartphones, like smartphones with fricking holes in the display, removal of 3.5mm jack and other things like that, including dual band sat nav and AOD.

Amoled, you can't say that's budget. It barely has a non-customizable, non-deactivable ambient display that's very buggy. It does have lift to wake. Also the a40 doesn't really have such a bad display. I mean in my house there is a total of 5 phones in use, an a7 2018, has aod, a50 has aod, my main phone a40 doesnt, motorola one macro doesn't have an amoled but still has some sort of very cool ambient display and then the black shark 2, which again has only an ambient display

Andreidinutu, 06 Aug 2020My a40 doesn't have AOD, doesn't have lift to wake and it has an amoledThe A40 is a low end Smartphone with probably a not so great display which wouldn't appreciate AOD and probably have way more anti Burn In protection than a higher quality (and cost) panel, and it is part of the minority of smartphones that doesn't have AOD, and most other modern Samsung phones have AOD.

OnePlus on the other hand have no phone with AOD and since the 6 (and except the Nord) they only made flagships and prior only made Flagship Killer (Except the X) and even use the same display as Samsung flagship who do have AOD.
A few phones of a brand without AOD isn't that much of a big deal, a brand with no phone with it is a totally different story.

Do us all a favor and implement something similar to Motorola's Peek Display already. It is practical that you can so easily interact with notifications.

Stop all these gimmicky and showy AOD...they serve no purpose other than looking cool.

notafanboy, 06 Aug 2020Why does it bother you so much? Does it affect your life?I mean a lot of things don't affect me personally but I still have certain views towards them. It's like saying you can't feel sad aboutstarving kids in Africa or whatever because it doesn't affect your life.

I just find it somewhat frustrating to see a formerly awesome tech-enthusiast company completely lose its face, I mean I understand they had to start orienting towards mainstream as well but they just degraded into this complete Apple-wannabe's. It's just sad, that's all.

Good that this feature that's available to almost all OEM using AMOLED screen is finally coming to Android 11 on OnePlus devices.

Let the user decide if they'll use it or not
