Higher refresh rate is more obvious ... moreOEMs don't tend to design their own resolutions for displays (as Apple does) to make them not too sharp, but enough (which is 450 ppi for OLED, 300 ppi for LCD), so QHD+ is the only option.
And they could but bigger battery, better cooling and finally remove a camera bump. A "worse smartphone" is bigger problem than a "thicker smartphone".

This was definitely not made with budget phone aspirations as it's a commemorative 10 years edition so they had to throw in all they have, i hope the selfie cam has finally got stabilization, that being said i think it's definitely their best phone to date and one of the best offerings this year

That's actually rather cheap, ofc global price is probably a bit higher than that. Regular Mi 10 in my country is roughly $680 right now.

Good job and congratulations Xiaomi for joining the Flagship market. With that in mind, you forget the flaghsip killer terms and value for money terms. But this phone is more worth than the Note 20 and can compete with the top dogs. I am not complaining about the price, it has a lot of features to justify its price tag,(IP68). It is better than the Oneplus 8 series (I don't like MIUI). I am complaining that most brands forget what made them to this point. They forgo the flagship Killer at 500 dollar price point. Xiaomi just needs to fix its selfie image processing, add an IP rating, improve the camera processing, up the resolution of the screen to QHD+, and Fix the MIUI. Then it will be the best phone of 2020 so far.
