Fairy tales are nice sammy, but you must do that silently as other competitors are already doing. Everytime promising and then forgetting promising and calling it "Re-define" is not going to work anymore. We have seen several promises from reputed vendors like HTC, LG, Sony, But see the companies are almost died in India, my HTC U11 is still on Android 9. So Stop these dummy promises and do it before announcing.
Boggy-Stefy, 18 Aug 2020Doubt, you need a big amount of resources to do something like this on Android (Android is not... moreWhat resources?
It doesn't take much maintaining a device with minimal increments.
Samsung and others should simply stop launching a platoon of devices unnecessarily and they won't have to worry bout pushing and working for updates on multiple devices for years.
But the profits are coming by such type of selling strategy so they continue to manufacture multiple devices with minor changes. And other companies seem to be following suite.

WTH, Samsung better not forget the S5e which was supposed to be the S6's lite version. If the S6 lite is getting 3y so should the S5e

Is Galaxy A50 is having the 3 OS Upcoming updates from Samsung. Galaxy A50 mobile is most important A series line up mobile in 2019 and still now in 2020. Thanks.
JayrBars, 18 Aug 2020Im stock with android pie with my j7 pro. But thats fine. I seldom use it anyway. Just for emergencyI don't get it, why people stay with such poor phones for so many years. I mean, you can literally buy each year a 200EUR Android phone and it will be much better and have the latest software. Or a 3-4 years old iphone (similar price), if you prefer IOS.
Even my father gets bored after 2 years using the same phone and ask me for a new one. And he is 70 years old.
EskeRahn, 18 Aug 2020I hope you are right, but they did write "By supporting up to three generations of Andro... moreThey already offer 2 major software updates, making such a big annoucment regarding an additional year of support for all flagships, tablets and A phones and then not committing doesn't make sense and would be a PR mess. Your reading to much into the words as opposed to the intent. Samsung can be slow with updates but they are reliable (in the UK anyway).
Anonymous, 18 Aug 2020Hope other brands will followDoubt, you need a big amount of resources to do something like this on Android (Android is not IOS). Only a company like Samsung can pull this of. Maybe Huawei, but as things are now, I doubt Huawei wants to put people and money into something like this. They have other issues and things to take care of.
Even Samsung, I think they did it, just to shorten the gap between them and Apple when it comes to software updates.
Yeah, yeah. "Up to" doesn't guarantee anything. Laugh in OnePlus 3T - the only device to date that really received 3 consecutive OS update to this day.
ian, 18 Aug 2020does it mean my j7 pro is not receiving security updates anymore? Im stock with android pie with my j7 pro. But thats fine. I seldom use it anyway. Just for emergency
That is good news, if they will implemented correctly and most important rapidly. I mean, putting update after update is nothing, if you do not make them stable or the update will reach your phone 6 months after it was released by Google.
For me, it was one of the major reasons why I left Samsung and Android. Not necessarily lack of updates, but updates implemented wrong or after months and months of waiting to reach my phone.
With the project treble updates Google have been adding to newer versions of android there is no excuse for any company to offer less than 2 OS updates anymore. And more and more should be offering 3.
I'm looking at you Xiaomi, Moto, Oppo
EskeRahn, 18 Aug 2020I hope you are right, but they did write
"By supporting up to three generations of Andro... moreWell, technically they already supported 2 years for their flagships.
So, if they wanted to say and do the same think, than why create a big news article about it? Just for publicity?
Also, Samsung now is already walking on thin ice (with all the Note 20 fiasco). If they will say something like this, but end up delivering software updates only for 2 years and in the end come up with a pathetic excuse, than I do not see them to well in 2 years time.
Anonymous, 18 Aug 2020The question is: why do you need to update the entire OS to keep your phone secure? Ubuntu ver... moreNothing, because it's not Google's fault. It's individual vendors being shit. Google is constantly updating Android, it's vendors like Smasung, Huawei, Xiaomi etc who don't update their phones for long enough. And fast enough. Partially the fault is because they modify their OS so hard it take smonths for them to update the whole damn thing and another is, they have so many phones they can't possibly keep them updated. But that's a prblem they created to themselves.
