4i4o Krem, 29 Aug 2020 under display camera must be in the middle. the idea is video talk -eye to eye.It must not even exist, in the middle it will be in the way of fulldisplay fingerprint scanner, which is way more important than any front camera thingy as it will allow constant/periodic authentification, with a proper implementation of security in a dedicated chip and the use of the superior ultrasonic technology, this is clearly the way to go.
Also, considering how LiDAR work, a mirror wouldn't get in their way, allowing rear ToF to still operate, which would, with the superior main camera, allow for software correction to digitally make the person look "in the eyes".

Really? No switching on/off. The way "no power to notification light -no power to camera then". Then may advertise it as an advantage for a model if they're serious. If this is solved, then no need to blame or try to stop new technology. It has to be done proper though.

Having so much phone models, there could be some regular specked without a camera for such customers. Idk, likely it's supposed even in business area people need to make front cam calls at least occasionally.

Well hiding people from the camera... if you're able to achieve it, then do it. :) I could live without many things of today's world. I don't think invention and progress can be stopped though. Personally will take my time to get it, no need to rush. Currently there are still options to have it, as we agree here. Not perfect as well, some experience pop-up stop working (some not). And it's needed for video calls anyways, isn't it? So Imo UD DONE PROPER is way forward. As for costs, everything new is expensive it changes later.

Technology itself about it is exciting.

This happens not only to me, but some of my friends (who used find X, one plus 7 pro, vivo v15 pro) broke the motors as well. Except for the find x (due to face unlock), my friends also don't really use the front cam often.

Hell, before the pop up, it was only theory that we were spied upon by smartphones camera, but the pop up by actuating systematically with some apps and websites proved that it was actually a thing.
Also many illegal data collection happen at OS and hardware level.

Yet again we are in the idea of trying to compensate all the issues the front camera cause, just ditching it and using methods that allow, whenever the user want, to use the main camera(s) while still looking at his display, is the real way forward, not trying to compensate for a tech that is way less useful than anyone try to pretend.
Outside of professional environment, in which privacy is a huge concern as many company are victim of spying, loosing big idea before they could patent them, not many peoples do video call, that's why it is stupid when it is used as an excuse to keep the front camera, despite possibilities to actually, as I said, use solution to also provide display + camera without having any front camera.

No front camera and ON/Push To Talk/OFF switch for audio and some other killswitchs (Bluetooth, Data and SatNav) should be the way forward, we need to hide peoples from the camera, not the camera from peoples.

Xiaomi and ZTE are really doing great job honestly, I'm not much of a selfie guy so I'm really okay with this new tech, for people who are talking about the privacy concerns, the apple's new mic and camera notification light can make up for it. the quality is really ok for a pre released software and a first-gen tech.

Excellent! It may not be the best picture quality, but it's the opportunities that this technology brings to the table. Added security for the front facing camera, since no moving parts are needed, and no "distractions" (even if they are minimal) on the screen. Full real state.

But TBH I would buy a cheaper phone with pop camera if instead, if this is not IP certified. The only reason for an under display camera is waterproofing. Most of the complaints about durability of a pop up camera are based on opinions not real world use.
