But having one something up its sleeve that the bigger 1 II doesn't would be a confusing strategy, unless of course they're simply hindering their top end model all this time and would just update it to run its maximum potential and match the 120Hz of this phone (if rumors are real).
Anonymous, 30 Aug 2020The reason why Sony didnt have 120hz on the Xperia 1 II is that it has a 4K screen. If only ma... moreOr maybe because it would consume extremely high amount of power to run it, that 4000mAh would be insufficient even when paired with Sony's fantastic power optimizations.
But maybe an update to run in 2K 120Hz would be greay.
Anonymous, 30 Aug 2020How can this be called compact? It's massive.Huh? Who said it is a compact phone?
Even from its name, nowhere does it say that it is a compact phone.
Anonymous, 30 Aug 2020Most xperia are already 120.
They will just unlock this time.
Oh that would be great!
But I'm not sure about the 1 II running in 4K 120Hz, considering the SD865 and even the 865+ aren't capable of going that far. Even so, 4K 90Hz would be perfectly fine, and maybe an option to go at 2K for 120Hz would be perfect.

However, this is about as good as you can get for a small flagship and a good departure from the seas of overbearing >6.5" devices.
India company Sony Mobile Yes or not??
Bezels give hope for decent frontfiring stereo-speakers. Also gives more room for the thumb when using android-gestures and a case is on the phone. I'm really hyped about this little sexy little thing.
I will buy this phone without thinking if it have that kind of spec ❣️😍
AnonD-947580, 30 Aug 2020What's the point of this phone? Is it half price compared to the Xperia 1 ii?Trolling much?
Well, it is smaller than 1 ii and offers higher refresh rate. So the customers have both choices according to their needs/likes.
And why should it be half the price of 1 ii? When everything is almost the same except the screen? It'd be definitely a bit cheaper (about 300 eur)
sohail shafayat, 30 Aug 2020This phone is narrower than the formerly typical 16:9 5" screen phone! There is no typical 16:9 phone in 2020. 20:9 or 19:9 is the norm.
useless with a smudgy glass back, they only do this to please reviewers

Such an elegant looks. My eyes are sore seeing phones with gradient backs and teardrop notches. Add to it the massive size.
Pixel 4a, Xperia 10, 5 are all so comfortable to use.
If the refresh rate will really be 120hz, my only complain is the absence of the purple colour. This is the sony phone i've been waiting since xperia z1 compact and i can finally have another sony device without feeling that i'm missing on any features. Bravo Sony.
AnonD-947580, 30 Aug 2020What's the point of this phone? Is it half price compared to the Xperia 1 ii?Are you a troll or something? Clearly it's a compact device. And NO, it's not half price.
"Sony’s continued insistence on an odd naming scheme aside"
Ughh, really? Is the naming scheme really the ONLY thing they're focusing on as a downside? GET FLIPPING OVER IT!
Sony will NOT abandon that because that's the most logical generational naming scheme there is, aside from incremental numbers (Samsung, Google, Apple, LG, Xiaomi, Asus, realme, huawei, oppo, you name it) and decimal points (Nokia), that is not being used by anyone else.
**triggered**
Looking at the specs I would guess this will RRP at £699 or more. They have already lost my interest at this pricepoint. This is a shame as the build quality and consideration for smaller hands is what made me use Sony.
Plus call me sulky but high refresh rates sounds like a total phone fan-person thing. Do we need this in the world?
This phone ticks all the boxes. Most importantly no ugly cutouts. Looks like my next phone
I miss full white front phones
