Demongornot, 04 Sep 2020Ah, because you are an expert in business ?
Actually many peoples would love such phone, you ... morethen I fail to see your point of argument. at one point you are against punch holes and notch cameras because they have flooded the market. at the same time you appreciate the pop up camera because it brings diversity. then you complain about the under display camera because it will "flood the market" and lead to more diversity... arguing with you is very difficult.
if you say that you want diversity, then why would you be against a new piece of technology that has just been introduced to the world? yes it might not be perfect, but nothing came out perfect in the first attempt. even Bluetooth was quite buggy and slow when it was first released. but with time and more research, it is now much better. simply because people appreciated it and offered positive criticism and suggestions that encouraged the developers and investors to put more effort into improving its quality. but you seem to be hell bent on ensuring this new under display camera technology doesn't see the light of day.
if more companies adopt this new feature into their products, then I'm sure there will be great improvements and those shortcomings that you've mentioned before about under display cameras will be fixed.
I chose to be optimistic whenever I hear about new technologies and I forsee a future where phones will have full screens on the front and back with the cameras tucked underneath the screens. whether I'll be able to afford such a phone is another story.
Anonymous, 03 Sep 2020wow.. you sound like someone who's never been in business or business class. why would a ... moreAh, because you are an expert in business ?
Actually many peoples would love such phone, you are just not aware of this kind of demande because this isn't what you want.
Again, what is missing is NOT, "ONE" specific phone with all that, but diversity, which include from none/one of those to all of them, and many combinaisons of them in multiple devices.
There are peoples buying extremely expensive things, that's why Nvidia make the Titans cards, because despite being over the top and extremely expensive, they sell well enough.
Good for you, that's why I talk about DIVERSITY, some peoples would be totally happy with a crappy camera, which was the concept behind the Poco F1 who had quite a big success, so with more diversity, you can have, for example, a phone with a single back camera that's good enough for when it is needed, or even a single but excellent sensor like an IMX689.
Sadly, no, they don't really care about what users want, they are just focused on a single type of device and totally ignore up to millions of peoples demanding for some features.
One of the reason is actually what you just did, because EVERYTIME someone say he would like X or Y feature or group of feature, or make a suggestion, from stupid to brilliant, every bloody times someone have to criticize it, which have as much weight for those deciding or influencing what available features will be chosen, so how can they justify making a device with X or Y feature set while there are as many requests than peoples, who often for no reasons other than for disagreeing, criticize it ?
From marketing department up to investors who rely heavily on news article for their investments, comments can have a huge impact, negative ones can be the worse.
So you have to realize that by criticizing someone talking about diversity, you are also encouraging the homogeneous design of smartphone which include a bazillion of camera, while, based on what you said, you'd be better with a single one.
Also, more devices would mean they'd be forced to unify more the way updates are uploaded, meaning there would be quicker security updates and longer support for Android versions for each devices.
Sadly, yet, many features are left ignored or quite rare because of this, except the market segments, there isn't any real difference other than few variations between most smartphones, had the market more diversity, you'd find your dream device that would be cheaper by focusing less on photography and I too would be able to find THE device or at least something close enough to the specific device I look for, because there would be at least one crazy phone with tons of features that many crazy guys like me would be willing to pay, justifying its existence.
Demongornot, 01 Sep 2020I mean that there is literally no options other than the "main" thing to choose from... morewow.. you sound like someone who's never been in business or business class. why would a company develop a phone with.. "hidden selfie camera and 3D facial recognition, or at least ultrasonic FPS along with other things like flat display. 3.5mm Jack, wireless charging, big battery and relevant cameras with a real periscope telephoto with at least 3x optical zoom.." and sell it to one person only at an extremely high price hoping to recover the production costs and possibly make a profit??? there's something called economies of scale i.e sell a product to many people at the lowest possible price and make profit.
Personally, I'm NOT into photography, so I don't need the "periscope telephoto" camera that you want, so why should I pay for it? but I'd really like to have an in display front camera. and I'm sure many people are NOT willing to pay for everything you have listed that you want.
So the phone manufacturers will do a market research and find out which features are more popular or in demand and the average budget of the potential buyers, and then incorporate them into the next phone that they release into that specific market segment. if there are two or more popular competing features that would greatly increase the selling price, then they will develop two or more devices each with the specific features in demand so as to keep the prices within the buyer's budget.
JayrBars, 01 Sep 2020What do you mean flooded with this tech?
Do you know something we dont know?I mean that there is literally no options other than the "main" thing to choose from, there is no variety as the industry focus only of few things, like the punch hole and notches who represent well over 90% of the available phones, the few other options are a mix of the pop up, sliders, bezels, flip camera, second display on the back etc.
For those who want something else than the main thing, there is so little feature combinaison to choose from because of that, for example I want something with an hidden (who can't view the user, like pop up or no front camera) selfie camera and 3D facial recognition, or at least ultrasonic FPS along with other things like flat display (another tech which is way too often used is curved displays, half of the flagship have it, leaving little choices for those who don't want it along with other features), 3.5mm Jack, wireless charging, big battery (I prefer thicker phone with bigger battery) and relevant cameras (meaning, no sub 12Mp sensors) with a real periscope telephoto with at least 3x optical zoom.
Those shouldn't be hard to combine and we should actually see multiple phones with such, but phones are so much the same that this is impossible to found, let alone a pop up or not front camera with 3D facial recognition AND an ultrasonic FPS like the Qualcomm 3D Sonic Max that no one have used yet despite being clearly the best FPS ever made.

Demongornot, 01 Sep 2020It is useless, a pop up do better for cheaper and give you privacy, on top of that, phones wit... moreI have a pop-up cam phone. Poco f2 pro. I love it. But as youve said, there are other alternatives, just that you dont like them. Dont feel bad, the phone tech is flooded with lots of brands you can choose from. Just get what you want or like. After all its your money
Mr C.K, 01 Sep 2020This tech is going to happen whether we like it or not. ZTE and Xiaomi are already locked in a... moreYou'd be surprised how much online comments can change things, well there isn't many practical exemples because EVERYTIME someone have an idea, even the literal best, there is always at least one idiot to ruin everything by criticizing it, which, for investors who have more than enough power to influence which tech will be released or not, and who will take a quick glance at articles and the basic answers on the comments (which is how they know whatever or not they should invest on a brand when a new tech is rumored or planned), they won't read the arguments, they don't have the time, they'll just take a quick look, enough to see negative answers.
That's one of the reason why our society is so messed up and bad, because everyone someone have a an idea, ranging from not bad to brilliant, there need to be that idiot wasting it.
I don't care that this tech is released or not, it isn't my problem, peoples will regret themselves this tech in the future, what I do care about though, is DIVERSITY, and the ability to choose whatever or not the type of device we want, but exactly like the teardrop notch and the punch hole, this disruptive tech will flood the market and leave no other options to choose front, THAT I care about and shouldn't happen.
I perfectly know I can't STOP this tech from happening, this isn't what I try to do, but since this tech is so hyped, it require quite "violent" arguments to be countered and have chances to give other options their shot at existing, which is why I basically talk about it as if it was something that shouldn't exist at all, because this is the level of agressive argumentation required, also it have the "shock" effect, look at how peoples react.
Peoples are too stupid, arrogant and egocentric to allow any other option to exist, which is why we need to fight fire with fire as just promoting other methods on the side won't be effective.

Seriously dude, if you're worried they&... moreYou are exactly the kind of person who make privacy a nightmare.
Privacy isn't something we can suddenly make change like that, it need to be a fight performed on ALL FRONTS, this INCLUDE the Wi-Fi, microphones and other, and in big part, the front camera, maybe Clearview AI wasn't a clear enough warning for you, but fact is, the front camera IS used against your will and your image IS used for unethical purposes.
Like the Pinephone, or more relevant, the Librem 5, the phones should have hardware killswitches for things like microphone, Data, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and satnav.
Mapping Wi-Fi is a location relevant thing, that anyway just having 4G enabled already give away your location, the camera not only give your face, but also your environment, the difference is huge.
Educate yourself on what consequences the lack of privacy can cause :
JayrBars, 01 Sep 2020This tech is not useless.
May be for you, yes. You can argue all you want about your reasons ... moreIt is useless, a pop up do better for cheaper and give you privacy, on top of that, phones with no front camera, as the Asus Zenfone 6/7/7 Pro and those with a second display on the back are way better alternatives.
Well, the 3.5mm Jack have a use-case for many users, many having expensive equipment with this, yet it is removed...
I am not in favor of this tech not existing, I am in favor of this tech NOT flooding the market and rendering other options inexistant, if you can't accept that other solutions should exist, I've nothing else to say to you.
Ahhh it's fun to come to this comments section. A free entertainment to see a self-claimed 'strong' god mad and crying because someone doesn't want to agree with his opinions
"fact is a fact". Imagine saying that without have any research that stated his opinion as 'fact'. What a joke
Just bring back the bezels and put symmetrical front facing speakers while you're at it.
I'd more interested with 8/128 version if there's available. 12 gigs of RAM is just a waste in my daily use.
In a matter of fact, manufacturers will prefer under screen cameras, even if it`s pretty bad now, it will probably improve to the point, where there will be no difference. In addition, because it is more secure with pop up cameras, creators will probably push them away. Pop up cameras has their own disadvantages.
Firstly, it`s something that gets out of the phone frame and can break.
Secondly, without pop up cameras and all of their mechanisms, there will be more free space for something else. (see how they got rid of the headphone jack)
Thirdly, face recognition unlock no matter what will be more convenient and faster with cameras on the screen itself.
Fourthly, it is easier to make phone water resistant without it.
Maybe there is some more things that manufacturers won`t go for the pop up cameras, which I haven`t mentioned.
Demongornot, 01 Sep 2020I have never seen any of your comment being something else than rude and personal attack, you ... moreThis tech is going to happen whether we like it or not. ZTE and Xiaomi are already locked in and pretty sure the rest of the top manufacturers are working on it. There's really nothing we can do about it no matter how much we say on online forums.
The ship has long sailed.
Anonymous, 01 Sep 2020Phones with notches, cutouts, punch holes, pill holes etc are now rendered obsolete.Apple:... What? But we can't do without bezels and cutouts.... Anywhere wait for our super packed innovative launch soon... And start selling your kidneys
Demongornot, 01 Sep 2020Yeah, this is EXACTLY what pop up and no front camera already allow to do, absolutely nothing ... moreConstantly spying device? You mean a smartphone.
Seriously dude, if you're worried they'll get your picture, wait till you'll have to give one yourself to your "constantly spying" government. If you already have done that then don't worry a single bit, they have your location all the time anyway. And your phone is opted in by default to scan Wi-Fi networks even if you turn it off, so they now what you're watching and where you're watching.
Seriously, if you're worried about someone spying on you, you have no other option but to switch back to a life without a phone, just like they did 40 years ago.
