It's kinda unfair for Xperia 1 and 5 only getting Android 11 but not 12.

My Z3 is still alive. Quality is great. My suggestion is if you buy flagship go for Sony. If mid range go for Samsung or Xiaomi.

Assuming the rumor is correct, I take it that 2021's Sony Xperia 1iii and Xperia 5iii will have Android 11 preinstalled and they will get updated till Android 14?

Denis Thomas, 02 Sep 2020Seeing that flagships are getting more and more expensive, the support should be longer than t... moreNope, is reversed the situation. In the last three years, Samsung always gived two OS updates to nearly all of their devices, counting from all 2017 S, A, J, Note, and Tab, series devices, you can check it in sammobile.com/firmwares/ page.
Sony only had gived support to flagship and middle devices, if lucky gives one or two OS update, if they want to support it.
But, the time says if Sony want to recover their golden days of glory, or keeping their stupid policies...

                        But has a huge flaw.

Impossible to be updated because of the dumb storage configuration.
4GB .... 2,1GB as internal storage for files that cannot be accessed same time micro sd is working.
The other 1,9GB are divided between system and space for apps. Out of box phone has just 0,9GB for apps. At some point like 0,2GB left, it will not allow you to install new apps nor update the ones you have already.

Since when the comments section feels like Sony Android updates pre-Nougat Era where Sony was very slow rolling updates? I know you're not happy with XZ1 and XZ3 update, OS policy, and terms and I understand, as Sony differentiates the OS on one same platform (Yoshino for XZP/1 family & Tama for XZ2/3 series), but this is already far step up compared to the 2012-early 2016 condition, especially when Sony abandoned OG Xperia C so fast. And my Xperia C4 phone received its first and last update 3 years after its launch...

As long as your beloved brands keep pushing phones with unnecessary 4, 5, 6 or 7 cameras; Sony will just have even more money for mobile.
Also all the PS5 games you all will be purchasing in the next 6 years.

The more I read about some companies offering 3 OS version bumps, the more I see it as a reason for them to further raise the smartphone prices. Will the Galaxy S30 cost around $2000 by the time it's ready and how much time will Sony continue to charge high premiums for their devices when they really don't stand out from the crowd?
