someone123, 07 Sep 2020I agree. I still start up an old WP7/WP8 phone from time to time and surprised by how well ... moreI so can attest to that. When I got my Lumia 830 as my first ever Windows Phone device back in July 2016, I am totally astounded at just how smooth and fluid WP 8.1 OS despite only having 1GB RAM and running Snapdragon 400 chipset. Even when I updated the device to Windows 10 Mobile, it still shows no sign of performance lag, and that's before I Interop unlocked the phone and increase the virtual memory up from 256 MB to 1.87 GB. Needless to say, it has completely win my heart to this day.

For 1300$, you can buy a PC that can play just about anything on good graphics. Or you can buy a phone that you won't use at all when it comes to it's real features.
Nobody takes pictures, nobody takes movies, nobody needs the s pen, nobody needs all of it's features (don't tell me "I do need all of those", if you do, then it's either your job or your hobby, which is not a common thing to do on a phone, as you can buy a camera, or a graphic tablet, cheaper and better for a hobby) so what's it meant for? I'm afraid to make a mistake and buy the rog over an iphone or a sony. Come on phones are supposed to be a pleasure, not a wallet emptier
The Nokia is super brand.
What a gadget it was, I made full use of Fax feature, it helped me a lot when we were doing IPO
the downfall of yersterday marvelous phones ... is ... the big brothers unseen influences ... in the name of unified ease-of-access user interface, that is the advertisement, in the name of people, choking forcing the customers to adapt and comply ... they build so called standardization institution to unify softwares and hardwares ... the main purpose is ... total information dominion ... like those films from hollywood, such ad minority report, department of pre-crime ???
from the operating system point of view ... the planet earth is running on the one and only operating system core, which is, unix, and controlled by international non profit institution ... x/open and opengroup

... we will add your biological and technological distinctiveness to our own, your culture will adapt to service us, resistance is futile ... that is somewhat the big brothers want, hollywood style ... therefore ... the downfall of yesterday marvelous phones ... to make a better world, as advertised

Nokia as ... moreMost big companies cross-license their technology, a modern product is full of little fees from big players.
I guess apple tried to pull an epic move there and stop paying licensing fees to Nokia.
It might also happen that companies forget - it almost happened to a product that I've been working on, in a big-ish company, that we forgot it had WMA support which had to be paid to MS. Basically every logo on a unit has to be paid for: MP3, DVD, USB, SD, Dolby, ...

What has Xiaomi done for themselves apart from selling cheap phones? The 108mp camera sensor was a big gimmick and was co-developed with Samsung (aka Samsung made it and Xiaomi put money to have access to it).
Even Huawei has at least tried to shake things up with some of their stuff.

For now since 2016, we are getting incremental upgrades and huge prices for all OEMs and they make so much money. I think thats their strategy to reserve all of their cool and innovative features and release out to the world when the time is right. Wait for another few years everyone, then a revolution in smartphone will happen.

Nokia as a phone company (not the new HMD) is not someone that Apple can use their patent troll tactics on.

Mobilemaster, 06 Sep 2020In the early 2000's, Nokia was an innovating company. I remember when I first saw the N93... moreSymbian OS was far away better than Android, that needed to improve only the UI for a better use, problem with Nokia was rather hardware, low memory and outdated CPU with little speed clock. Only trolls of android who thought , all phone with this OS will be better. If Nokia used the same hardware, android will not have this big audience, and also Nokia was sanctioned by USA to abandon their OS, exactly like Blackberry, to choose one from USA. They sent a trojan horse to sabotage this company so that she abandons her favorite OS with help of some shareholders of Nokia, When this company was destroyed, Symbian dead, these shareholders received big money and was placed in other big companies.
Sold a number of these when they were introduced, I guess I know the potential of these devices for mobile users.
Made a little money as commission.

Anonymous, 06 Sep 2020More than 1000 dollars,really..These wear made in Europe, Finland. Motorola's were made in the USA, UK, Germany etc. Because made in Western countries justifies the prices rather than Taiwanese or Chinese made 1500$ current phones. Also firms used to made their own OS rather than third party Androids. I think phones used to be cheaper and better than today.
