I have had this problem from start and it totally ruins the experience.... The display is beautiful in bright areas but in dark areas is really is as the youtube-clip above. I really hope Samsung can fix this issue, because it is the only problem (but a big one, in my opinion) with the Note.
Anonymous, 13 Jul 2012The iPhone can do this via an app in Cydia on jail broken devices. The device is certainly capable. Sure you can jail break the iphone... if you want to lose your warranty, lose access to quick updates and in general have a device that is slow and buggy.
no problem at all in my galaxy note international version.

Plague? OMG because a couple of hundreds are having the same problem doesn't mean that is plagued, how many handsets have been sold so far? C'mon GSMArena let's not ignite an issue that's not massive!!!
After a closer look it appears he is running the SCREEN FILTER app which is why the note screen isn't bright.
At normal minimum there is no problem. If you run screen filter at say 20-50% of minimum brightness you will see this. This happened on my SGS2 as well.
At normal min-max brightness there is no problem.
GSMARENA JUMPING THE GUN AGAIN!
I'm running ICS 4.0.4 and don't have this problem.
The only time i see it is at night if i run the screen filter app at 30% so i don't wake the wife (just another thing iphones can't do).
No issue at normal minimum to maximum brightness.
What is that pixilated washed-out screen used to compare. I would be more concerned about that...
I didnt quite understand what to read from the test they had there. I installed quick pic , downloaded the image and set it to 32 bits. There i saw that only 1.2.3.4 were totatly hidden , like deep black, but the rest were scaling up normally with no abrupt changes .
I have Galaxy note with 4.0.3
This has been the issue from day one, not a recent one. For a beautiful screen like that of the Note, it is extremely disappointing that Samsung let this bug pass through its QA. This issue is similar to the emmc bug, that Samsung also knows about, and is in actual talks with some senior developers from xda about it - still not offering any solution. The emmc bug has bricked thousands of Galaxy Notes and SII's worldwide, but Samsung has done nothing about it.
For those who say they don't have the issue with the screen, look properly. Play a few videos with black background, and you will definitely see the black clipping/crushing. I urge you to not reject the issue without proper investigation, because if that happens, in the end, Note owners like you and I will be the losers, not Samsung, who hasn't paid attention to this ever-existing issue.
Mediocrity on the part of Samsung in premium and flagship devices like the Note is unacceptable and Samsung should be ashamed of it, when they are trying to compete with Apple, which plays great emphasis on quality control. Is Samsung listening? It's about time, if they want to penetrate and retain dominance on new markets.
Yo guys. The Final result: Amoled displays are meant to have this shit alright. I know that samsung is quite stupid well guess what. I compared this to the Nokia N9 with the same amoled display. N9 didn't have this issue. So im saying it's not about the crap pentile or super amoled stuff. It's samsung doing something else to the screen we dont know. They might be adding extra load crap inside their screen. I dont alright.
P.S: I love the note this didn't happen to me lolz. Bought mine international from Hong Kong. No problems at all.
When i read "Plagues" i think of wide spread. This issue isn't wide spread, maybe affecting 5% of units at most. Plagued......pfft
lolz i knew this ever since i watched my first ever video with dark shadows. Well it doesn't occur if you watch bright video when the camera absorb enough light. Still when compare this to a S2 or a iPod touch 4g they look the same except from that vibrant deep color from the Super Amoled HD. Overall not much difference. Maybe this guys phone is fucked up.
P.S:I liked the note more when i compared it to the S2 and iPod touch.

Never had this problem on my Note. Weird that the phone's been out this long and one person makes an issue out of nothing now suddenly everyone's noticed it? Hmm..

Its a shame for a phone with this big screen marketed so well and this is the end result!
what wow, 12 Jul 2012I bet it that stupid pentile amoled crap. super lcd 2 is the kingIt is simple that you don't know all things about HDSP. you should work with both of them and you will understand HDSP is better. I did that. But this is an at&t galaxy note that has this problem. My rooted N7000 doesn't have this problem with Ics.
