For example, without chinese OEMs you have paid to Samsung a hand and a leg for a midrange phone.

In 2015, I had to pay Rs 250 for just 1 GB data (that too with crappy speeds), then add to it a plan that gives talktime, say Rs 50, and then a booster pack for reducing the call cost, that would be around Rs 30. All this for just about 28 days. Jio was revolutionary for India's telecom industry, bringing never-before 4G accessible to the masses. Today every Indian operator is giving at least 1 GB per day because of Jio.

Now there are only 4 or 5 left so no real competition.

In India value for money is the most important criteria...price is the most attractive point here...that being said ,there are a lot of buyers here too for this premium phone...won't be surprised seeing people holding this in a 5 star suite

Indian market is complicated. Following are the buyers across the market -
- Buyers who want secure, productive and efficient mobiles ( Apple and Blackberry)
- Buyers who are tencho savy ( Apple, Pixels)
- Buyers who want to show off that they keep latest and best phones , specially Samsung Note series with stylus ( Samsung and Apple)
- Buyers who want everything mentioned above balanced but want to pay less than premium( Samsung and One plus)
- Buyers who think of affordable balance (Xiaomi)- Buyers who want tons of features, flashy designs at cheap prices and still want to look premium ( OPPO VIVO REALME Samsung )
- Buyers who feel indian products are capable of competent ( Micromax)
And something which runs common across most of above mentioned buyers is - After sales services have to be available only then it's a good product.
So surely this product will find buyers in India.

Premium piece of tech right there. Best foldable device currently.
Total head turning device right there.
Isn't meant for people who can't afford it.

[deleted post]I'm not Indian but I also care about price/performance ratio. This foldable phone costs a lot more while offering the same performance as a normal flagship phone. I understand that once unfolded, I'll have a larger display to interact with, but I'm not sure if the larger display is worth the price premium.

They are looking for a device to separate themselves from the pack. So no way they will buy a LG non foldable phone as a substitute.
