Impressive if they bagged the entire line for this round. Have to wonder if TSMC actually lost it or if they didn't have the foundry time and capacity to make all the needed SD875.

Samsung will not design SD chips they will only manufactory them in 5nm way. It is up to Qualcomm to design their chips and to Samsung manufacture them in efficient way. Samsung was designing and manufacturing Exynos themselfs, but Exynos design was behind snapdragon, nothing to do with manufacturing.

RTX2080Ti was based on optimized 14nm FinFET.
So, 8nm node is an improvement.
You have to take it that Samsung's Fabrication is no longer better than TSMC's fabrication after the 10nm process. That's the last that Samsung was better.
You might probably wanna wait for 3nm process. Samsung might be better again.
But their 7nm and 5nm are worse than TSMC's node.
No argue on that.

Either than pro mobile gamer, I can't see how any one games on their phone for more than 50% of each single charge cycle. Under that condition, that so called lead in GPU fades away.
Permanence per watt DO take battery efficiency in count, since you are looking at the power draw value. And for mobile device, if you don't take batter consumption of power draw into count, this is just skewing the metric. What you are talking about is pure performance aka "performance per MHz", which, I not going to bother argue, as I said, I look at overall with as many angle possible. Battery and thermal is on the list, with battery a big priority since day 1 for me.

And the battery difference is minimum.
Like I said if you use regular apps Exynos will give you better battery life. For example
Exynos 8895 has 10% better battery life for web browsing.
I think when a SoC has 15-20% better GPU performance and has 5-10% battery hit then I must say the 5% battery hit is worth the performance and
Overall it's more efficient.
Like I said, Flagship Efficiency is measured on perf/watt scale, not how long it last while running a game or how much power it draws.
Otherwise Dimensity 1000L would be the flagship SoC, not the Dimensity 1000+.
Weaker SoC will take less juice. But if a performance SoC takes only 10% more battery and give 20% more performance, that means it's more efficient than the weaker SoC.
Bad move for Qualcomm, my guess, they want certain leverage so TSMC don't become the next monopoly giant that nobody can touch, despite currently, TSMC clearly has better packaging.
Last I remember when a direct comparison can be made, was when Apple using both Samsung and TSMC for their A9 SoC, while Samsung using 14nm node, TSMC opt for 16nm and Samsung did not have the clear advantage that it should (https://www.tomshardware.com/news/iphone-6s-a9-samsung-vs-tsmc,30306.html), especially at temperature.

It because they still have the highest selling volume that keeps them holding over certain standards at manufacturing, which in turn affect they post sales support and part supply. Whether it by Samsung or 3rd party. It is a healthy cycle.
But you can't over look on some their disadvantages - over bloat software, crappy update to force you into a new handset or no update. Though because of their user base, it also has a big base for the developer scene. Plus when you pay a premium price for a phone, you expect a premium experience, but often Samsung truly disappoint on that regard. It that same reputation that people has the expectation and that lead to disappointment. Works both ways.

And if memory servers right Exynos always perform worse at this department, especially thermal. What the point of winning performance by 5 to 10% while sacrifice battery time by over 15%? That doesn't justify any means. Overall, means taking as many as angle count, with all the minor lead Exynos has over SD, you simply can't crown it.
It like I'm watching Intel over their latest presentation as to justify how Intel still has a better mobile processor competing over the Ryzen 4800U... Sure, keep taking out that Adobe benchmark. As if looking at manipulate PDF is what office people do all day.
