Sony and Omnivision already has per pixel PDAF. Samsung's still flexing their fab process capability instead of fixing the AF problem in sensor hardware for their quad and nona Bayer sensors.

Excellent : Bigger sensors with big pixels.
Perfection : Bigger sensors with big pixels + Omnidirectional PDAF.
OMGWTFBBQ : Bigger sensors with big pixels + Light-field + Good light-field based autofocus + excellent camera software + great lenses.

If anyone uses a smartphone for photography and not a real camera, they aren't that bothered with final image quality.
It's quality over quantity of pixel ... anyone who says different know nothing about photography.

Samsung needs to Polish their algorithm for sensors providing 9to1 binning.
As the 9to1 binning isn't providing a huge difference in image quality over sensors with 4to1 binning.
