Sony's image processing is NOT imamture, it's just how a TRUE camera processes images while retaining the accuracy of the captured scene.
That's why when Btekt compared the 1 II's camera to the A7III and other flagships, the Xperia's look is the closest to the mirrorless camera, while the others are noticeably altered by software.
Picking between heavy processing and minimal processing is a preference, but it's unfair to say that the approach to latter is referred to being immatured, when I can easily say the same thing for the other because it looks childish and requires no human brain at all.
I like that T* anti-reflective coating joke :). Xperia 1 II has the same thing but for some reason suffers with possibly worst lens flares among the modern flagship phone. Don't be ridiculous, Sony!
Still no wireless charging on the "small" flagship? _ ridiculous when Huawei can provide both wireless charging and two zoom cameras in virtually the same footprint. Yes, I know the 5 is narrower but that doesn't really help when the phone is still tall, nothing compact about this phone other than the tiny onscreen keyboard.
I tried a 5 and felt the interface was a bit slow, had a pointless (and very ugly) Sony News app forced on to me, found the cameras weak in p.a.s auto mode and got hand cramps from the narrowness.
I suspect nothing will have changed...
Another boring phone for the Sony fans.

iOS Never Again, 17 Sep 2020Aren't you using the K30 ultra now?
How much did you buy it for in your country? Nahh just the K30 5G. I don't want to spend that much more on things that I won't really need in my life.
Anyway my phone converts to $306 in our currency to where I bought it.

All you guys are just s*ckers for HDR processing with huge shadow boosts using AI tricks. We know you only want to see a fake world, but please!
To say that Xperias have bad image processing because of their ideology to represent the actual scene according to how a human eye sees it,.... man that's gotta be some serious bullsh*t I've heard in years 🤡🤡🤡

iOS Never Again, 17 Sep 2020Plastic scene photos? Lol it's got the most color accurate natural looking photos with hi... moreCompletely agree with it. I played with OP 8 Pro for a week. Only positive impressions from it. At the same time I had Xperia 5 for 5-6 month but can't say any good about its camera system. Actually, the only things I liked in X5 were flat screen and size / design. Camera was hit or miss all the time, especially when the light conditions were not ideal. I doubt that Xperia 5 II will be better in this regard since TOF sensor is missing which proved to be helping with focusing at least. So EUR900 for this?! No, thanks.

I can't afford it either, but I sure do understand why it's priced like that. And it's unarguably a MUCH better deal compared to other similarly-priced phones to this.

Nick Tagataka, 17 Sep 2020In binning mode, Quad Bayer sensors do "additions" of light information right during... moreNO. Just NO.
The sensor slows down in the downsampling and debayering process, even if it's hardware-automated. The fact that it performs that task already gives it an additional delay, whereas the IMX557 on the 1 II can just casually take pictures after pictures for up to 20 times per second, complete with autofocusing and auto-exposure capabilities.
It's not like Sony's the one who would stick to what's traditional if it's no longer practical, but only because they know that such sensors wouldn't give the absolute best results attainable. Besides, if it were really that good, then why haven't we seen similar technique used in a proper digital camera? Obviously because it's no better than traditional single bayer sensors, and the advantages of them far outweigh their disadvantages.
Funny you said Samsung didn't optimize their sensors properly, as if they were to really do that for a sensor that they would use on their $1500 phone LMAO 😂.
It's purely because the concept isn't super effective at all.
If you were saying that Quad Bayer sensors don't hinder the sensor's speed in capturing images consecutively quick, then why don't we see the same 20fps AF/AE burst on Samsung's 108MP sensors? An update could've easily allowed them to have that, IF the sensor was really capable of pulling it off.

900 Euros for Xperia 5 II is much more attractive offering compared to 1200 Euros for Xperia 1 II. Too bad this isn't available everywhere in the world. So sales would be lackluster.
Shipping in December? Why not November? I believe the demand would have been better if it would have been shipped around the same time the PS5 dropped. Smh, Sony get it together man.

I personally never tested the Xperia 1 II as it isn't available in my country but I saw Micheal Fisher review on YouTube where it is clear that Sony's image processing algorithms haven't matured and photos lack a lot of things that other 2020 flagships have.

Nick Tagataka, 17 Sep 2020Looking at my P30 and S10's teardrop/punch hole cameras on the front - I definitely think... moreTheir front cameras live inside a giant punch hole, so they could easily make the sensor larger because they're not hindered by bezel size, while Sony needs to keep it smaller due to bezel size constraints.
Anyway, even for a 1/4" sensor, the front cam on this phone is still fantastic. It even beats the S20 Ultra's front cam sometimes in WhatGear's test.
