But LiDAR is a specific name. Reviewers would have mentioned it if it were not actually a LiDAR.

AnonD-754814, 19 Sep 2020Well. Apple is using LiDAR that is every site is saying. Trust or not. It's your choice. Every site calls it "LiDAR" because Apple calls it "LiDAR" like every site calls their lcds "Retina displays" because Apple calls them "Retina displays". "LiDAR" is just a fancy term Apple calls their ToF sensors which are just regular ToF sensors and not proper LiDAR.

System used by cars can detect objects far away.
      Ipad cannot, only 7m away.
      No Lidar, just direct ToF.

Ultrasound scanner can work as a radar but not radar.
Ships use Sonar to scan underwater and Radar to scan the surface.
Again you're providing a wrong info.

LiDAR employed in self driving cars are simply bigger and more capable.
Kinda like tiny sensors in smartphone vs big and capable sensors in DSLR/Mirrorless.

Besides don't try to be smart when you're ignorant. Radar uses radio wave, not ultrasound.
They're different. You're simply not smart enough to notice that.

Everyone else calls it ToF but Apple is trying to characterise it as something else, which I'm not exactly sure is correct if you compare the LiDAR employed in self-driving cars and whatever it is in Apple's products.

Lidar is simply a ToF which can measure 3D shape continuously.
It can also work as a radar.
