AnonD-14560, 23 Jul 2012I guess you're right. But there's no one OS, even Windows 8(x86) on PCs and Windows 8/RT(ARM) ... moreThank you for your input it was very much appreciated. And yes I agree and fully understand your statements. I'm also aware of the variants with OS across platforms I guess my initial reaction was out of anger & disappointment for the lack of foresight and commitment to long term R&D. HTC as with other manufactures seem pump out products to feed the less informed consumer market with total disregard for the needs of the business community. By the way we are in discussions with Google but deferred any decisions until after October so we can compare Apples with Apples (no pun intended)The main objective is to adopt a uniformed approach for IT & ICT, partnering with a hardware vendor with long term commitment I believe is equally important hence my frustration. Once again thank you for your valuable input.
My last phone was an HTC Nexus one. After that phone, I will never buy another HTC. Anyways, I don't think the lack of update is a big deal. HTC sense ruins the whole android experience
Can someone give me a compelling reason to buy a new HTC device. I bought the original HTC Desire and Loved it.. but there was no real future software updates.. because I loved the Desire so much I bought the Desire HD and Loved it even more.. but again no software updates. I was really looking forward to the ICS upgrade to the Desire HD.. Now that I have been bitten twice by HTC I can't find a compelling reason to upgrade to a HTC One series smart phone. What makes this whole sitiuation worse is that we KNOW that there are 4.0.4 after market roms for these HTC phones. I have asked my technical friends to install them on my phone and it makes no sense that HTC claim the performance is so bad.. The excuses provided stink of a company that does not care about the user experience, does not care about long serving customers, does not care about fragmentation or security. What makes this sad story worse is that it shows on HTC's financial results.. a company that I used to rave about making the best android handsets... now I find it hard to recommend... It's a sad chapter in a long story of complete ignorance. When will HTC realise that most of their users are smart enough to see through the lies? When will HTC value long term customers, When will HTC realise that word of mouth recommendation is more valuable in the long term than any short term value from a recent product review...
yeah , my next phone will be sony or samsung ! Got the phone from year and this is just awsome news ... This was my 4th and last HTC phone !
I would like to know why a Desire C or even a One V can has the ICS and Desire HD and Desire Z not.
I'm sure that people will make great unnoficial ICS to these devices.
I'm a HTC fan that is always defending them but it's becoming even more difficult.
My new phone won't be Htc! Samsung, Nokia,Sony .... Sorry htc you are not in my wallet anymore. There must be a rule of 24 month update or that company will not see my money...
m86k, 23 Jul 2012You are wrong mate. Even when they do justify themselves, people like here keep complaining an... moreYou just didn't get my point. Whatever experiences you had with your previous devices, it doesn't mean manufacturers will have the right to release a bad update just to cover their a$$ and made people realized that they have to buy a new phone instead.
We all knew that software run on hardware(not on experience), it means same OS, same hardware equal to same result, no other BS. It's only manufacturers fault that they can't manage just this. You didn't say that core i3 can be faster than i7 on some model, or even if it's the same i3 but one can run Windows 7 smooth and one cannot, right? It's just physically impossible! Sorry, in this case, no technical issue, just marketing issue.
ofek, 23 Jul 2012I am so fucking dissapointed I am not going to get another HTC phone if they won't change the ... moreOh Poor Demoted Fandroid, yes you will buy another HTC Device even if they keep this the same just because thats how the Loyal Android Worshippers like you act.
The second they announce a major HTC device, you'll be selling yourself again for it just like you and many others did just for a phone update.
I am so fucking dissapointed I am not going to get another HTC phone if they won't change the announcement
AnonD-14560, 23 Jul 2012The reason your phone was doing bad with ICS doesn't grant the right to manufacturer to not up... moreYou are wrong mate. Even when they do justify themselves, people like here keep complaining and keep telling them how BS it is... Reminds me and my customers trying to argue with me, whereas i'm the technician (and so knowing all details and background of the problems) and them not.
There are many reasons, not the obvious ones only than us public can see.
I have a Xperia Ray yes which is slow as hell under ICS (with random reboots, battery leaks etc..) but fully enjoyable under GB, Sony wasn't recommending the update also. I have still a Galaxy S around which didn't get upgrade to ICS officialy. I know the hardware is quite similar (1ghz/512Mb), so after seeing my Ray, i'm glad i didn't have to see it too this way. Personaly, my SGS1 was faster on usage, apps, games than my neighbor's DHD so.. It's not only my mind, but his too, both phones stock and clean.
Actually, i have / owned several Android phones (due to work), LG Optimus One, Moto Defy+, Alcatel OT 995D, S2 & S3. It's obvious for me that i wouldn't ask ICS support most of them due to my experiences. But people who have only 1 phone and never seen it running, need to see to believe. It's human nature.
Disappointed, 23 Jul 2012If this report deems to be correct regarding the Desire HD well I'm afraid HTC you has lost my... moreI guess you're right. But there's no one OS, even Windows 8(x86) on PCs and Windows 8/RT(ARM) on Tablets or phones are totally difference OS. Although, they share similar interfaces, recognize each other well, they can't share the same app. Just like OSX and iOS. As of today, there are no universal OS for PC, tablet and phone yet.
If you want long term support, Microsoft isn't the way to go. They did good with PC but not on phone and tablet. From Windows Mobile 6.5 to Windows Phone 7, HTC HD2 wasn't able to upgrade because there're too many buttons on the phone. And now, newly Nokia models only got 7.8 instead of 8. On Windows XP, neither Internet Explorer 9 or Direct X11 available.
Apple on the other hand, great support for their customers, but lacks respect. They do whatever they want, many limitations are waiting and expensive too. If usability is one of the factor, Apple can't beat Windows on PC and can't beat Android on phone and tablet.
How to achieve long term support on Android? Not ask HTC, Samsung, LG or any other brands out there, just ask Google itself. Nexus S still got Jelly Bean! All Google products also come with reasonable price and efficient. Little to no limitation. I like it, much more comfortable than when I'm with Apple.
If this report deems to be correct regarding the Desire HD well I'm afraid HTC you has lost my loyalty & trust. Not only as an individual but also as a business. I was looking forward to the update with view upgrading to the ONE X or XL when our contracts end in October. Unfortunately I/we can no longer rely on HTC for fear of been caught with redundant devices again and will now re-evaluate our position. Perhaps Apple have the best solution for business after all or should we simply dump Google & Android as a solutions provider and negotiate directly with Microsoft following the release of Windows 8 in October. And standardise on one OS for for all our phones, tablets & computers instead of a fractured uncoordinated Google Android system.
"current version of HTC Sense with Android provides customers with the best experience on the HTC Desire HD"
Ok so that means HTC Sense (newer version) developed for Android ICS is the culprit?
Trange.. i just got official ics ota for incredible s today.. they have same spwc..
well thats the decider for me. looks like i'll be getting the s3 now
