Alm... moreI can definitely agree about bad night photo quality, OIS doesn't even exist back then until the existence of the Lumia 920. But you are right when it comes to daylight photo quality - the 808's true-to-life photo processing is still unbeatable to this day.
Lol, its just shows how useless those AI cores whatever is, marketing gimmicks. Obviously google got cought and just said yeah everything is fine the Neural calculations are enough from SD700, yeah sure, does it even matter? Do you even use those useless Neural calculations on tiny mobile chipsets? :))) We are not stupid.

I think I'll be waiting to see Pixel 6, although I'll be ordering the 5 for my wife.
If you want to get higher spec phone, it's better to buy Galaxy. If you want to get newest OS, no bloatware, root easily, Pixel is best.

Almost DSLR like quality.
Though you could argue that it had bad night photo quality.
But Damn no phone ever comes close to its day light capabilities, even after 8 years.
So, basically it never was required, it was just handy for forced product segmentation. Or in other words, Google is typical corporation. :-D
Should I even care about this when it's all just camera software algorithm stuff? Man, I seriously miss the old days where hardware physics is all the rave such as Nokia 808 PureView, Nokia Lumia 1020, Samsung Galaxy K Zoom, and ASUS Zenfone Zoom to name a few. Heck, the 808 and the Lumia still produce the best true-to-life photo quality to this day.
Pixel phones are on the best way to become crap. Lack of this, lack of that...
For $700, I would like a better processor and storage tech that isn't from 2017. I want speed, not something well-marketed. I like timely software updates and it seems I can get those via AOSP. Midranger with a flagship price.

After all its a Beta Device for Developers and enthusiasts who get server side updates for Future future polished updated to other Android phones.
Spec geeks give af about the processor. I can break out my pixel 2, knock the dust off, and send emails, take photos, surf the net and I'm not staring at load screens. The miniscule amount of time I'd save by choosing Samsung or apple, is offset by the time Pixel saves me thru software. I actually use the "phone" app quite a bit. But thanks to pixel, I don't have to just answer the phone. When my phone rings from a non contact, I already have a transcript of who it is and what they want thanks to call screening. And I wish I already had "Hold for me". I hate hold music and never hearing it again is just fine by me. Looking forward to duplex expanding and becoming something closer to what it was at the demo. I wish I could get that with other manufacturers. I'll stick with a mid-range processor to keep the pixel features.
What a great look for Google.
They can't stop breaking various other features to fix the camera.
When this goes on for long enough, they discontinue it once the appropriate social media clout surrounding dissatisfied customers gets too cold for a sustain plan.
Now? Instead of standing by a product they not only discontinue these phones within a year, they gut the next generation over, effectively doing what put HTC in the grave.

They are living in 2018, with 1 year old processor, camera from 2017, and still no Periscope zoom
Why would I buy a phone from an Data theft internet ad banner company?
I'm just about done with Google's bs. On top of all that they don't supply security updates past 3 years making the phone obsolete.
