Backside fingerprint sensors and no face id means I have to take the phone off the charger every time I want to read the details of a notification. I would think side-mounted is a good compromise, but otherwise I don't see too much going against the front sensor.

All fingerprint sensors anyway work spotty for me (50%), regardless of how much time I put into re-registering the fingerprints, cleaning the sensors, changing positions. I've learned to deal with this in the past 5-6 years.

I have no issue whatsoever with a fingerprint sensor on the back. What is wrong with author of this article? Flat displays are also stucked in 2017 according to him? I want to have a technology that works and is user friendly.

This to me feels overly critical.

Google's design process through the years has been a mess, but this time they brought objectively good products on the table. Criticizing plastic build is just dumb, as plastic can be anything from premium to cheap, unlike aluminum or glass which are unequivocally the same material, with just slightly different finishes at most. You can't know how the plastic on the new pixels feels since you haven't tried them yet. And going by past experience all pixels where pretty good on the touch and feel.

Also, you criticize the new choice of using aluminum plus plastic coating and say "maybe it should have been only plastic from the start". Well welcome to the 21st century. Have you ever heard of composite, bi-layer materials? Perhaps your brain should have been only bones, if it's covered by the skull anyways. I'm kidding. But you see, maybe this composition gives it better properties, most likely structural integrity. And when was the last time a 4080mAh battery was found in a 144.7x70.4x8mm body? Going by the database, only few old plastic entry-levels can compare. And here we have all the features (even wireless charging!) besides telephoto, sanpdragon 865 and headphone jack, non of which I could argue are essential.

Last but not least, right now they are the only Android phones that are going to be updated to Android 14 in 2023, since even the few companies promising three major updates are still pushing out their phones with Android 10. A practice, this last one, that to me looks almost a fraud, but that's for another argument.

All said, this year's pixels value proposition looks at least fair to me. Given the performance reached by 2021 socs I'd take a fairly priced, updates granted, flagship with 765 over an overpriced midrange with 865 any day.

              Underdisplay fingerprint sensors are bad.

                The article says:
                "What is a flagship?
Not to get too philosophical here but often people confuse the meaning of the word flagship. If you Google the definition, it will tell you a flagship is "the best or most important thing owned or produced by a particular organization"

Wauvvv, but again, no matter what the original definition says, "Flagship" in people's mind is a phone with all the top gear in, ALSO the years top chip.

Can't take this serious, most people can't.

Hot Take: Buy an iPhone or a Samsung

Why would anyone spend $700 to buy a phone from Internet Advertisement Agency?

iPhone is far more prestigious and so is Samsung.

I think the pixel 5 is a great device, just needs to be better promoted at 100 usd less.. Same as the s20 fe. 600 usd for this device is the sweet spot.

It's just a typical Google to introduce something they said is good, then throw that away. How many does Google apps have collapsed replaced by another similar apps? Now they have done the same to Pixel phones.
