We've seen the Under Display Camera of ZTE and we know that it is slightly NOTICEABLE and the QUALITY if the pictures are AVERAGE to BELOW AVERAGE. Just watch Unbox Therapy.
Reputable leakster Ice Universe said that Samsung UDC is superior than the Chinese implementation.
And for those people who are saying that Samsung is "LAGGGGINGG" behind. That is not true... They're putting the tech on their most expensive device so the QUALITY should at least the same with a regular punchole setup and the viewing experience should be great. They have the reputation that makes great display. Putting inferior UDC tech on their flagship smartphone is a really stupid thing to do...
Anonymous, 06 Oct 202070% of photos taken on phones is with the selfie camera - you guys might take "5 selfies ... moreHow would you know that we are a minority ?
I don't see many of the 50-60+ Yo peoples using those at all, 30 and younger, yeah sure, and even there, not everyone.
You only base your assumption on the fact you are not picturing using a phone without front camera and think your case is THE norm, while in fact there are way more variety than you would ever know, which is why I often fight for diversity in devices, because in the current market there is a HUGE lack of options for many peoples.
Also, I didn't talked about using a regular phone turned around to take pictures of yourself, I talked about solutions allowing to take pictures with the main camera WHILE still being able to see yourself on the monitor, like the Zenfone 6/7/7 Pro do, or like a pop up would do if rather than having a camera it have a periscope with a 90° reflector that can be used to feed image to one of the main sensor using a moving 90° reflector, or any other possibilities.
You would need to be insane to choose a constantly there front camera that have lower resolution and outputting lesser quality pictures, prevent you from having true fulldisplay, is often implemented with notches and holes causing issues with many apps and reducing the already limited space of the status bar, and causing many privacy issues...
Over the way superior main camera that negate all those issues and could be used with the same practicality as the selfie camera + display...
Why would anyone pick that lesser option ?
It would be like, rather than having a reverse gear, your had cars with a second small engine for reversing that was so tiny it barely could get uphill, was noisy and wasted a lot of fuel while being super noisy and caused need for extra maintenance very often.
The Smartphone industry is the only industry in the whole world where so many ridiculous decisions are the norm and where peoples fail to see the potential of better alternatives.
AnonD-909757, 06 Oct 2020Yeah, clearly, it is intrusive and always cause issues, need for bezels, holes or other thingi... moreThose who are concerned with bezels or stuffs like you have
ocd problem, consult psychiatrist instead of tempting companies with gimmicky heavy phones at high price with stupid pop up camera
AnonD-947580, 06 Oct 2020Totally agree. It makes no sense since on the majority of phones the front camera is the worst... moreYeah, clearly, it is intrusive and always cause issues, need for bezels, holes or other thingies, it cause privacy concerns, it have lower quality, it take space and cost that could be used for other things, etc.

P-CHM, 05 Oct 2020Big names tried and failed. Big corporations and well established open source projets alike (U... moreThe only issue with making another OS (computer or phones/tablets) is the initial lack of applications/softwares, making an OS isn't even the hardest part even though it is already a hard task (but, as you said, we can make an OS from another, like from Linux or go deeper using Unix which save a MASSIVE amount of work), it is to attract enough peoples.
Not enough apps/softwares mean not enough users which mean not enough programmers interested in this platform, which loop back again and again, but there are solutions, like making emulations (through virtual machines or other means as long as it is legal) to allow things from other platforms to work, or to make, as Huawei is doing, a good deal for the developers.
You can also pay yourself devs to make all those most popular apps for their companies, imagine Twitter who can get for free an app with all the source code and everything that they only have to check, test and publish, no chances they say no to such opportunity.
AnonD-909757, 05 Oct 2020This make absolutely no senses, not only this is time to remove the front camera and rather us... morePop up or any mechanical set up sucks makes phone heavy, difficult to use facelock... Front camera is essential, you may not like it but nobody cares about your opinion
70% of photos taken on phones is with the selfie camera - you guys might take "5 selfies a year", but you're clearly in the minority.

romanson, 05 Oct 2020And for that S21 , again they will do the same thing , again there will be , exynos and snaprd... moreIt will continue like that for the next 10-50 years.
The Exynos chip will lack farther and farther behind.
The E1000 has already been revealed to lack far behind the next SD chip.
I'm done with Samsung as well after 5+ years as a loyal Sammy user I'm now switching to iOS.
AnonD-909757, 05 Oct 2020I haven't heard of that one before, but if this is true, well, Google are stupid, that... moreBig names tried and failed. Big corporations and well established open source projets alike (Ubuntu and Firefox, among others). Huawei will probably make Harmony OS (or something else) work in China, but the rest of the world is stuck with iOS and iOS+... er, Android.
OSes aren't products that are easy to replace. There's always the chicken and egg paradox of apps and devs. If you want to provide compatibility with other OSes, you'll run into another category of problems.
You might want to read about OS/2. It was pretty early in the desktop OS history, but still very relevant.
TL;DR: Good luck with another OS.
And for that S21 , again they will do the same thing , again there will be , exynos and snaprdagon , less ram , less reason , and base storage 128gb
No , hell no , no more samsung for me
Anonymous, 05 Oct 2020for instagrammers which is alot of people front camera is more important that back oneExcept when you can use the main camera AS a front camera which allow for better quality pictures.
There are many solutions to do this, front retractable mirrors, external monitor (or even external selfie camera), second display on the back, flip camera like Mate X, periscope pop up using moving reflectors to switch optics for the same camera, etc.
GregLu, 05 Oct 2020For the Fold2, it makes more sense in tablet mode since it'll be used in video/multimedia... moreWell, if you want to use larger display, which mean higher resolution, that's even more of a point to not use underdisplay camera as front facing camera in general have poor resolution (after all, this is why the Zenfone phones top the selfie camera quality charts) and underdisplay add even more degradation on top of that.
Considering the phone is already large as a tablet, using external solution such as those :
Make even more sense, mainly if we talk about a more modern equivalent, like a foldable double mirror integrated into the phone's back which would be compact when retracted and cheap to replace if it break and would offer way better quality than any dedicated front facing camera.
for instagrammers which is alot of people front camera is more important that back one
P-CHM, 05 Oct 2020You have to argue with Google for this. One of the requirements for GMS certification is to ha... moreI haven't heard of that one before, but if this is true, well, Google are stupid, that's nothing new, but phones like the Asus Zenfone 6, 7 and 7 Pro, Huawei Mate X, Nubia Z20 are exemple of this being totally faisable.
It's anyway time to make a new and better (and more importantly, non-US controlled and truly open-source) smartphone OS, the only reason it haven't been done is simply because with the initial lack of apps it would push many users away, but it is still possible and it is what Huawei is doing.
And knowing that along with Facebook, Google is the most important spying company out there, well known for their data collection, it make you wonder why they ever put such rule.
This is a MASSIVE read flag and an even bigger reason to push for making available phones without front camera for those who want/need them.
