One point is that Sony itself doesn't seem to care about its phones. They announce a phone, then wait half a year and when it suddenly shows up in stores, it's already outdone by its competitors.
For me personally, I bought an Xperia M4 Aqua and it was worse than my previous iPhone 5 so I avoid them. The software looked similar to stock but was unrefined and throttled the experience, the camera software was horrible, and the hardware was not great either (8GB of storage, exceptionally cheap back cover, sharp feel around the edges, corners made it uncomfortable to hold, SD810-level overheating, cheap vibration motor)

Rkunreal, 08 Oct 2020Why don't people buy Sony Xperia phones anymore?Sony didn't provide budget smartphones. Their UI was great around 2015. Lack of features according to price. They should come back to low budget smartphones with great features. I used Sony M Dual.

kretenallat, 08 Oct 2020now if they could make the best camera phones...They can, but would be waste of money due the fact it would never sell as much as samsung or apple phones.
Something like Panasonic CM1 could be easily done.
They have 20MP 1" dram sensor used by RX100/RX10 ..
In 2012 they registered patent of under screen front camera. Mark iii won't have it.
In 2017 , patent for real wireless charging using NFC, it may never be used.
When you lose money, you think before doing things.
Not all risks can be taken.

But Sony also sells sensors to be used in cars, mediacal machines and security cameras.
The other do not.
So they have more than 50% of overall, while Samsung not even 20.
