Msjsjsn, 11 Oct 2020Not sure about the clickbait headline, as surely you need to add together all the I'm buy... moreThese are sponsored articles.
They're made to keep the handlers at Google happy, so that this site keeps getting preferential treatment and review units.

There is likely for money to be involved as well. Now, I'm not opposed to money, we all need to make a living somehow. But some are able to do sponsored content with integrity, such as Linus Tech Tips, and others choose to not. Some of the worst offenders I know is "Unbox Therapy", and MKBHD. Those who don't have good journalistic integrity actually end up hurting the market, as these articles are not good for consumers looking for unbiased information. For those curious, I say look elsewhere (and be critical/skeptical), the most repeated one is Anandtech. My personal recommendation is "Some Gadget Guy" also known as Juan Bagnell, he seems more informed, unbiased, and a reasonable judge of technology.

It's not attractive just because of the camera. Everything else about the phone is not so appealing at all.

It was also clearly a loaded poll, with a clickbait option entitled dropped the ball...

Well, it IS disappointing, and that is No Surprise.
Even you guys, GSMArena, said it yourselves when you compared Google's latest and greatest device (Pixel 5) to their most ambitious and competitive device (the Nexus 4). For the record, their least ambitious and least competitive attempt was in 2018 with the abysmal Pixel 3 (the Pixel 3XL was better but stupidly priced).

In case people missed it, I did a deep dive to compare their competitors, and the standard price (Germany, unlocked, no subsidies) over the entire history, including the time they refreshed the Samsung Gnex with huge price mark-down which set a precedent for a good while:

            2008 - HTC G1 (300 Euro) ---------- (500 Euro) iPhone 3G ---- Motorola Dext (300 Euro)
            2009 - Nexus One (400 Euro) ------ (500 Euro) iPhone 3GS -- Motorola Milestone (450 Euro)
            2010 - Nexus S (500 Euro) ---------- (600 Euro) iPhone 4 ------ Samsung Galaxy S (500 Euro)
            2011 - Galaxy Nexus (500 Euro) --- (650 Euro) iPhone 4S ---- Samsung Note (550 Euro)
            2012e - Nexus Galaxy (300 Euro) - (600 Euro) iPhone 4S ---- HTC One X (600 Euro)
            2012 - Nexus 4 (350 Euro) -- (650 Euro) iPhone 5 ------------ Samsung Note 2 (650 Euro)
            2013 - Nexus 5 (400 Euro) -- (650 Euro) iPhone 5S --------- Samsung Note 3 (600 Euro)
            2014 - Nexus 6 (650 Euro) -- (800 Euro) iPhone 6+ ---------- Samsung Note 4 (650 Euro)
            2015 - Nexus 6p (700 Euro) - (850 Euro) iPhone 6S+ ------- Samsung Note 5 (850 Euro)
            2016 - Pixel XL (1,000 Euro) - (900 Euro) iPhone 7+ --------- ZTE Axon 7 (500 Euro)
            2017 - Pixel 2XL (850 Euro) - (900 Euro) iPhone 8+ ---------- Samsung S8+ (650 Euro)
            2018 - Pixel 3XL (950 Euro) - (1,200 Euro) iPhone 10 max - Samsung S9+ (650 Euro)
            2019 - Pixel 4XL (900 Euro) - (1,300 Euro) iPhone 11 max - Samsung S10+ (700 Euro)
            2020 - Pixel 5 (650 Euro) ----- (1,200 Euro) iPhone 12 max - Sony Xperia 5.2 (900 Euro)

I believe Google is smart. If they really were, they could've just put the 855+ and put the cost down as well. That would've been a great move in this competitive market considering the S20 FE is just 600$ now (discounted), OnePlus 8T is coming, iPhone 11 will most likely be 549$ after 12 releases and then lastly there will be iPhone 12 mini for 649$. I know those facts, Google certainly did too, dunno what they're doing,

Its worth pointing out that here in the UK the Pixel 5 is £599...£100 cheaper than the S20 FE 5G. Also, I think that Google has found its niche with these phones and its Pixelbook Go but their earlier attempts at success in the hardware market have biased people against them. Espeically phone enthusiasts who visit GSMArena and will be much more interested in having top specs vs. software experience, camera, compact form factor etc...

It's just that for this midrange chipset they aneed to have a midrange price. Its way too expensive. You can get a OnePlus flagship for this price. Right now it's position like the OnePlus Nord but priced like the flagship so it's not worth it.

Pixel 4a5G for 450$ and 5 for 600$ was the price they shouldve launched the phones for.

L.O.R.D, 11 Oct 2020Not a bad phone, just a bit too pricey for what it offers. The Pixel 4A got it right at $350, ... moreI completely agree. If Google wants to turn their flagship phone into a midrange phone then it needs a midrange price. $500 for the Pixel 5 would make sense. Otherwise for $700 you can get a Galaxy S20 5G that has a true flagship chipset with the Snapdragon 865; a much more up to date much better main camera module, plus telephoto and ultrawide cameras (the Pixel 5 is using literally the same main camera module as found in the Pixel 3); expandable storage; a higher resolution and higher refresh rate screen; and Samsung now offers three years of security updates (which used to be the one thing that made Pixels different from all other phones). The price of the Pixel 5, for what you get and compared to the competition, is just crazy.

                                Google haven't a clue.
They have their own teams, they ripped HTC off for htc's teams, these are the best they can come up with ?
One simple question, why do Google bother with phones?
or almost 95% of the hardware released with Googles name on it ?

Once the embargo is removed, watch all youtubers praising this phone and worship google. They all make fun of the S20 FE, yet they will bend over for whatever turd Google releases. Just remember how the Pixel 4 was regarded as the “best” Android experience, despite the lousy Face ID and poor battery life. The Pixel 5 will, again, be regarded as the best Android ever.

Not a bad phone, just a bit too pricey for what it offers. The Pixel 4A got it right at $350, the 4A 5G should've been $450, and the Pixel 5 at $550, those could have been much better accepted prices for the newly announced phones, without the freebies of course, as most people don't need them anyway so they could've reduced the prices instead, which could have easily justified the performance gap between them and the S20 FE but maybe Google thought otherwise or that they just didn't see the FE coming at $700

And the final comment in article is one of Google major problems, they never bother to make it obvious what their "game plan" is, and have a long history of killing off most minor projects such as nearly every single bit of hardware ever released with Google name on it. Often with little or no warning,
Do one thing or the other, build a very good premium price super device, or a proper very good ultra cheap "flagship" embarrassor, Google can afford to do either, out of spare change from sofa, why build a overpriced bad selling mid ranger that satisfies very few but annoys many ?
