wtf only US market will have MMwave standard ? if i buy a Pro Max, i want to keep it for a while and not to change for a new phone next year in order to have MMwave. samsung already offer this standard.
Me, 09 Oct 2020It´s stupid 90, 120hz... only for low battery, nothing else...Almost every 120hz flagship in 2020 has over 7 hours of screen on time with that high refresh rate, there is basically no excuse.
Anonymous, 09 Oct 20201.7 is the side of the square. So whole pixel is 1.7x1.7 .
But there is space between them. ... moreWrong! Pixel size refers to the pixel pitch(!) as I mentioned before. Pixel pitch is the distance between the center of two pixels, so it is 100% correct and already includes non-sensitive area. Every sensor manufacturer (Sony, Samsung, Omnivision, etc) handles it like that.
"557 has 7,34 x 5,99 ... This data come from those apps,that show hardware info"
Then the app is clearly wrong! Probably the app just identifies the sensor name and the developer just googled for the default sensor size of a 1/1.7" type sensor. Yes, the Imx 555 has a 1.8 micrometer pixel pitch, therefore the active sensor area is 39.5mm², which is larger than the 35mm² of the 1.7 micrometer iPhone sensor.
sa11oum, 09 Oct 2020The 108MP sensor is trash. The focus field is so narrow that only the subject is ever clear, t... moreThe depth of field mostly depends on the lens. You can use a medium format sensor and get the same depth of field as a smartphone camera, if you use a wide angle lens with bad f number.
If you want to increase the total amount of captured light per time at a given field of view, the only way is to make the depth of field smaller, no matter which sensor size.
The solution is a variable aperture or cameras with different depth of field.
Anonymous, 09 Oct 2020Not true. 1,7micrometer, etc is the pixel pitch(!), not the size of the photodiode! It is 100%... more1.7 is the side of the square. So whole pixel is 1.7x1.7 .
But there is space between them.
So you cannot count just 12.200.000 x (1,7)(1,7).
You would be ignoring the spaces.
Imx557 and 555 are twins (which also means S20 could have same AF level of 1ii if Samsung knew how to do it).
38mm2 is for 3:2 sensors, phones use 4:3.
557 has 7,34 x 5,99 ... This data come from those apps,that show hardware info.
In the case, 557 and 555 have 1.8 micron. Not 1.7.

For sure it will be HD.
There area must be similar to 5.2" 16:9.
With about 2200mAh, it cannot survive with FHD screen.
Iphone SE with smaller screen and almost 2000mAh is awful already.
JDK, 09 Oct 2020Yeah I agree. No need to have a 108MP sensor when a 12MP sensor is just as large.The 108MP sensor is trash. The focus field is so narrow that only the subject is ever clear, the background and foreground are usually extremely blurry. A failed experiment, all flagships will go back to 12MP next year.
ypcx, 09 Oct 2020.... and the p30 pro from 1 and half years ago. still no reason for me to get excited since... moreI use Face ID while wearing sunglasses. Have no problems. Give it a try.
Anonymous, 09 Oct 2020But this math does not count the gap between pixels.
This is why value is much lower.
Also... moreNot true. 1,7micrometer, etc is the pixel pitch(!), not the size of the photodiode! It is 100% correct.
Furthermore a Imx 555 doesn't have 43mm², it is 39.5mm² large. 1/1.8" , 1/1.7" , etc never give you the exact active sensor area, for example 1/2.3" can mean 28mm² or 30mm².
Anonymous, 09 Oct 2020What Apple calls Retina is just a fancy name they created years ago to name screen with 300ppi... moreapparently the human limit of perceiving resolution is somewhere around 400 PPI, but due to how the OLED pentile matrix works apple had to bump up the resolution to 458 PPI to make it look good (the LCD iPhone 11 looks good enough at 326 PPI) and slapped on the buzzword SUPER RETINA to make it sound like a new feature.
since all four 2020 models are getting OLED displays, they're probably (hopefully) going to follow through on 458 PPI even on the 5.4" phone. The leak also says the iPhones will only switch to 5G when the bandwidth is necessary to save on battery. Otherwise trust in the A14 i guess.
Anonymous, 09 Oct 2020Simple maths. (1.7)² x 12 or alternatively 1.47x23.9But this math does not count the gap between pixels.
This is why value is much lower.
Also, 12MP is effective pixels only.
Usually sensors are 12,2 or 12,3MP.
For example , imx557 is 7,34 mm x 5,99mm = 43,96mm2.
Don Hrle, 09 Oct 2020I grab a laptop if I need to read something. I use a phone to call and text ppl ffs Then you probably use a Nokia 3310!
Anonymous, 09 Oct 2020Where did you get 35mm2 from? HM1/HMX have 72mm2. Imx555/557 have 43,9mm2 Simple maths. (1.7)² x 12 or alternatively 1.47x23.9
13mm=0,5 (ultrawide)
26mm=1x (wide)
52mm=2x, not 4x (zoom)
65mm=2.5x, not 5x (zoom)

HM1/HMX have 72mm2.
Imx555/557 have 43,9mm2
Anonymous, 09 Oct 2020108MP is more than 60% larger.It is exactly twice as large. 70mm² instead of 35mm².
But due to the f/1.6 f-number a Xiaomi Note 10 won't capture twice as much light per time, rather 80%.
Anonymous, 09 Oct 2020108MP is more than 60% larger.Reason it is dumb to compare photos taken from phones with very different sensor sizes.
Same way a 1" cannot be compared against 4/3 or apsc.
Nor apsc versus full frame.
JDK, 09 Oct 2020Sorry, I meant nearly as large.108MP is more than 60% larger.
I hope the others will follow again Apple, this time with an compact premium phone..
I mean until some years ago at least Sony Xperia compact was a thing....
JDK, 09 Oct 2020Sorry, I meant nearly as large.This sensor will be 35mm² large.
