Plus you have to add around 0.5 million apps to the catalogue as they aren't available on playstore but are available on other Android marketplaces.

'According to the same report, Google Play also boasts the largest app portfolio with over 2.7 million total apps'
This is definitely a very strong message. A powerful propaganda. They want to explain that Playstore is doing well. But my question is simple, is there Fortnite? Not? There are lots of good games, that can not be found in the Playstore but can be found in other stores. There is also a coalition of developers who are against the high fees they have been charged. Obviously this shows that Playstore is not in alright. And the propaganda that is built cannot cover that fact. If this trend continues, it is not impossible that in the future the Playstore, even the App store, will be more lonely and abandoned. For android phones, it doesn't matter, but who will guarantee that the iPhone will continue to sell without the third party application? The coalition of application developers is still small, but if ignored it, they will grow and get support from application developers around the world. It's easier to trample seedlings than to cut down trees, right?

Android.Master, 15 Oct 2020Plz dont embarrass yourself by comparing Apple to Ferrari. And please don't embarrass yourself by thinking I was making a direct comparison. I was pretty clear in stating that it was a loose analogy intended to show that two companies, whilst sharing share some industry cross over, can be diametrically opposed in their business models.

Do try to keep up eh.

As for which one stands head and shoulders above the other is a subjective matter based on a plethora of factors, unique to individual needs, desires and means.

Google's business model with android is entirely different to Apple's with IOS (or any of their products for that matter).

To Google their real customers are the advertisers, Android users are just nodes, the more of which there are, the more attractive is the product Google can sell to those real customers.

For Apple, they want a customer base (which is based around people not advertisers) who can afford to pay for both the hardware (and it's associated R&D / production costs) and for the increasing services they are offering. Certain markets around the world just do not support that model, so it's not in their interest to saturate the world with IOS devices in the same way as it is for Google with Android.

As a very loose comparison, imaging Ferrari looking to out compete Ford based on the total number of cars sold worldwide, they would have to completely upend and reset their current business model and practices. Conversely, imagine ford declaring victory as they currently sell more cars worldwide than Ferrari. Both cases would obviously ignore the fact that whilst they are in the same industry (they both produce cars), They have radically different business models and consumer markets in mind.

So yes, it was always going to be the case that the Play Store would eventually outpace the App store in this way, it is not in itself a victory, though for certain fanboy types it's probably the best news they've heard all day.

I've used both app store and play store. Play store is much better much easier to download apps and update them. And that opinions about bad quality apps are lies. Almost all apps are great.

dude111, 14 Oct 2020Apple, by far. https://mobilesyrup.com/2020/07/02/apple-app-store-continues-more-money-google... moreIt’s because the overwhelming majority of the world is poor, living in squalor, and Android devices are what they can afford. Those people aren’t going to be subscribing to services and paying for apps.

These Android play Store App downloads don't include Google apps generally as they are already present out of the box while Google maps and others Google services based apps like YouTube and others are one of the most downloaded apps through the App store.

Despite that, Playstore downloads outperform Appstore downloads by 3 to 1.
This is to be expected as Android is the OS of choice on smartphones.
Just head and shoulders above the competition.

The large downloads in Google Play is because of games. Some people install certain games but delete them after a while anyway.

Anonymous, 14 Oct 2020Would like to know who is making more money though Apple vs androidYep. I use both and most Android apps are far inferior to the iOS ones. Both from design and usability standpoints. The same is true for Android TV vs Apple TV.

I have spent a lot more on iOS apps and games, because they are much more polished generally.

Some people say that this is because Google is not available in China, which is true but given the vast amount of android devices compared to iOS, it should be more balanced. But no, people prefer to spend more on the AppStore

Too bad that you have to download 4-6 applications before finding one that is good enough to keep.

They should measure install vs uninstall, 100 downloads and 99 uninstalls isn't something to brag about.
