It should be the A13 vs A14, that's the chart to examine.
I have a feeling that the A14 has some serious thermal issues that is why Apple forego the 120Hz screen refresh for now. The excuse of battery 'saving' was to hide the A14's issues.

Talk about density of transistors, you can fit more transistors in 5nm size in the CPU than 7nm in the same chip size. As we can see, A14 chips have a little upgrade in processing as for its predecessor, A13 chips. Apple's motive maybe to increase power efficiency for this year iPhones. As for Snapdragon chips, they couldn't care less if their chips are taking advantage to the Moore's law, as long as they can market their increasingly CPU performance they can provide (not talking about power efficiency). The reason why is they're just marketing chips for smartphones not smartphones itself.

A14 Bionic still can't do 4K120.
Even the old SD865 have better AI/ML capability with 15 trillion operations per second compared to the 11 tops of newer A14 Bionic. The upcoming SD875 will have more than 20tops.
