2020 is truly an eventful year. I'm not even surprised by anything anymore
Unless if the 12 mini REALLY does break its older 4.7" sibling models' past battery life curse, $699 for NEW non iPhone users are nowhere near a win at all because lol... extra $20 minimum for a charger.
$700 in Malaysia gets you an Asus ROG Phone 3 Strix Edition complete with base accs + charger + dongle. It's not mini at all sure but with a comparable rival top SoC, big battery, better screen etc.
Hm looking at this I guess Apple chose efficiency for A14 compared to performance?
I heard rumors that Apple actually fitted lower capacity battery in iPhone 12 series due to the need of space for 5G antenna, especially those mmWave one. If you look on the reveal, Apple didn't talk about battery capacity at all so this confirms my suspicion.
So with lower battery capacity and power hungry 5G networks, Apple chose to focus on efficiency on A14 and this is why it only has modest gain on benchmark scores.
The unimpressive score is because of the new IOS 14. If IOS had the level of customization, versatility, flexibility and multi functionality of android, its benchmark scores will fall precipitously.

that would be alot worse than the 11th gen intel cpus
atleast they should have gone for AMD for better integrated graphics, batterylife and thermals.
this switch would have solve all macbooks problems.

If iPhone had more RAM it would score more,
If iPhone had more Cores, it would score more.
If iPhone had higher refresh rate screen, it would score more... Well Duh!
That's the same as saying...
if my phone had bigger battery, it would score higher in battery endurance tests.
if my phone had 5g, it would score higher on network speed tests.
if my phone had bigger camera sensor, it would score higher on camera performance charts.
if my phone was made out of higher quality materials, it would score higher on durability tests.
All their claims about the A14 chip performance improvements over Snapdragon chips are in their fantasy world of "if iPhone had 'x' hypothetical scenarios"

Anonymous, 15 Oct 2020App reloads and crashes will happen because of low ram. Operating system doesn't matter. ... moreIPhone due to low RAM is notorious for reloading apps.
Real world tests have proven this where phones like ROG 3 and OP8 pro can hold many games in memory while Apple starts reloading.

AnonD-804996, 15 Oct 2020Neither do I. There is plenty of positives with Android phones. But Apple haters always act li... moreThe 5 year update system of iOS is a giant scam. You get latest features 5 years late on an average. Android is light years ahead of iOS in terms of functionality, customizability, security and ease of use. Android from 5 years back can do things current iPhone can't.
iOS 14 finally got an app drawer and fully functional widgets, Lol these are things that existed on Android a decade back.
Plus with every subsequent update, your battery and cpu are deliberately slowed down by Apple (Yes, they are paying fines for this malpractice) whereby one is forced to upgrade after a few years.
