Apple announced that these laptops will continue to run the current apps. I'm guessing they will be using a similar mechanism to the one used by Java, like JVM. An instruction pre-processor that makes the old apps compatible with the new architecture. Current tests with these apps and the new ARM based processors showed great improvement compared to the Intel based ones because of ARM based processing power.

ARM can do what X86 can beyond.
The problem is X86 based on homogeneous computing
While ARM is can do heterogeneous architecture with Big.LITTLE arrangement.
You simply cant can run any apps per se, it needs to be optimised on case by case basis on different systems and different configs..
If that's done, nothing can beat an ARM Chip.
Something similar happened to PS3, Which had heterogeneous processor with 6 small co processors and 1 large one.
Developers never bother to tinker with it, thus the perfomance was devastating.
But PS3 Has more theoretical power at 230 GFLOPS While PS4 Porcesaor is only 105 GFLOPS.

Can't install x86/x64 pro software such as Matlab, Proteus, Autocad, etc which is important for work. ARM processors are not up to these task compare to superior CISC instruction cpu in normal laptop. ARM macbook will be the same as chromebook can't do anything, only for browsing and netflix.

Now.. i guess its more mobile driven os. android (arm) Linux, Hopefully Windows found in the Surface Pro X.

Everything Apple sells is way over-priced and bears no relationship to 'cost' per se. Why people buy it remains a mystery; it can only be snob value. Little to do with 'value for money'.

Also, the keyboard and trackpad are included, and some people just like that laptops can be balanced on the lap etc. There are so many reasons.
