Ever since the Snapdragon 650 appeared in Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Pro, performance for midrangers have finally become adequate. Any chipset containing cpu arch. Cortex-A73 wouldn't feel sluggish. There's still features that even last gen flagship chipsets will always prevail current midrange chipsets such as 4K60 video recording, faster GPU, more powerful DSP and ISP but most people could live without that.

i do agree with the article.
latest and greatest chips can be easily replaced with better overall value mid range chips.
And 90% of users would not notice any tangible difference in day to day use.
instead of faster processors , better features would be a welcome sight.

This post is stupid and I'm going to tell you why.

People don't need anything except to eat, sleep and reproduce.

How come we got from caves to having small screens permanently connected to the internet that can do more things that somebody from a few dozens years ago could even imagine?

I'll tell you how: it was not with this mentality.

It's not about what we need. It's about what we can do and what makes our life feel better.

Can you notice a .5 second diference when opening an app? Probably not.
But how about when you open apps hundreds of times for day? Does it add up? For sure!

People say faster processors don't matter but they do.
If they didn't, companies would not need bother making new chips ever again.

Stop justifying greedy companies that sell slower processors for increased profit margin.

If you're not a heavy gamer, mid range chips are fine.
I'm using SD 675, redmi note 7 pro and it's fine.

Poco f2 pro has a large cooling chamber to cool the 865 chipset but still cheaper @ $400 the best value for money you can get. And Mi 10 Lite 5G runs 765G chipset priced @ $300. What I hate about these other vendors Vivo Google OnePlus a phone with 765G chipset is priced like a flagship phone @ $600 - $800 hell no

Not been needed for several generations of chips, evolution is more about electrical efficency by die shrinking.
Desktops got there 10-12 years ago, mobiles 3-5, instead, it's heavier grunt gpu's and more ram..

Very nice article. So far the chase for stronger chipsets has been driven by gaming. But nowadays the improvement becomes very hardly worth it even in that area. For those that feel this attitude is complacent or even "shilling" consider that a new potential has been mentioned even in the article itself - the cooling technology should probably be viewed as a new technological horizon. Other improvements can be had in areas like sustainability or ergonomics. There's still places to grow, it's just probably not "faster and faster" forever.

I am going to say it isn't as smooth as flagship experience, many people use their phones for just social media apps and light games.
but some use it for heavy gaming, which midrange processors cannot run smoothly.
the option for flagship should be there, but it should not be completely disregarded.

Not true...Its necessary for gamers, etc. Even SD865+ cant run heavy games at 60fps like Genshin Impact. Who knows maybe in the future smartphone can run PS4 and PS5 games, GTA 5, desktop apps like photoshop plus other heavy softwares...
