That is where you missed it... There ARE no real competitors... https://eskerahn.dk/?p=3803/
Perhaps the huger Astroglide will prove some sort of a competitor in 2021, but not that much cheaper (819 vs 899) and with a Mediatek chipset that (as far as I understand it) make different OS-variants less likely.

How do I reach developers without paying for an IndieGoGo campaign?
Anonymous, 27 Oct 2020Better than any from oppo and xiaomi Xiaomi has so many solid devices you don't have to start a needless agenda against them. Almost every Xiaomi flagship in 2020 is better than the F(x)tec Pro1-X. $899 is a lot to pay for a phone with SD 835, small battery and not offering the same video and photo capture as its competition. I was actually gonna buy it until I saw those specs.
I see many complaints on the price and the chipset.
In short: If a real keyboard in the right direction is not important for you then look elsewhere.
For those of us where it is, we do not really have any liable alternatives at the moment https://eskerahn.dk ?p=3803
But remember that this was a product designed a couple of years ago, the first sent out slightly over a year ago. And was always intended to be a niche product that they expect to sell in the thousands not millions. So all the base costs of development, certifications and moulds end up with a significant impact on the price on each unit, compared to a specwise 'similar' product.
I welcome any addition to the almost identical slabs from all the other vendors. Variation is the important thing here. We all differ both in our usage patterns, physics and economy, so no device is ever going to be ideal for every one.
Sure one of the larger brands COULD have designed a phone to exist in multiple physical variants, including a real keyboard, and thus reducing the costs on the niche variant significantly. Last we had something like that was back in 2011 with the four logically identical SonyEriccson Xperias. A compact called "Ray", a normal called "Neo", a (back then) huge "Arc", and last but not least a Neo with a keyboard called "Pro"

Funny how people laughed at those using the Arc as a ridiculously humongous tablet. Today it would by most be considered a very compact device....
The SD835 is going to make this undesirable to a lot of people.
This phone is primarily a computer and yet it has screen with rounded corners and curved edges.Could've been good if it were not for this. A pity, they missed their target group completely with this design.
sterijuanna, 28 Oct 2020oh yeah, exactly the type of phone I was looking for. Kinda too pricey tho. @the manufacturers... moreI also agree. This is a $200 phone, and the weight needs to be in the keyboard to stop it being unstable, but also thin like a normal flagship. That's doable, even if you have to compress all the keys when closed. So, a flexible OLED over a firm base, to reduce screen damage from flex.
sterijuanna, 28 Oct 2020oh yeah, exactly the type of phone I was looking for. Kinda too pricey tho. @the manufacturers... moreThe camera sensor and lens is dollars. The video camera chipset hardware is the issue. Even a flagship chipset might be very low quality video. It is one of the avenues of differentiation. A 240mp sensor (was supposed to be coming) might be expensive though. But 8k is nice for photos, and might be close the bought to 4k in price.
Many sensors also allow much better video than the chipset support. Up to 14 bits, with photo modes that can do above 8k 30fps 4:2:2 (often 10-12 bits) which is better than video (4:2:2 is encoded differently on video, in a way that decreases image quality). The samsung 12k chip is rated to 15fps 12k, so isn't that great as a wide angle action cam), but maybe a 16k will do 8k 60fps). So, concentrating on a good 4k/8k 4:2:2 12bit plus flat + LUT/Transform look video camera, would be a good thing.
its good starting to see some timeless designs popping up again.
for me, it should had 765G, and 8-12gb of ram and 256gb + expandable storage, as this is intended to hooked up with external monitor for productivity. and of course bigger battery. no need for 5G or multiple cameras.
if OnePlus can sell Nord 12/256gb variant at $370 and seeing how it performs make Pro1-X price a DOA.
Reasons to get this is the physical keyboard and that it's running a mobile operating system other than Android and iOS. However, this phone released last year with 2017 hardware and is now re-releasing for an unamusing price of $599 for Indiegogo backers and then $899 at official launch which doesn't look good at all. It's possible for at maybe 2 years of software updates but it'll be too outdated by then. They could've put current mid-tier hardware for better affordability and possibly longer support. This reminds me of BlackBerry.
I can get used sony xperia XZ2 for 140$ in my country, why the h3ck you want to pay 600$ for this device lol small battery and ancient Snapdragon
It makes us much choice... Good job
I've had my hopes on SailfishOS sad it never came anywhere close to mainstream.
I like this kinda phones with QWERTY Keyboard. Sadly minimal to no choices these days.. I would definitely buy this phone but it would have been better if the processor was SD 845 and 4000+ battery. 😔
Man I would've considered it if it's priced correctly just for that slide-out keyboard and the promised support, but as of right now I don't know why anyone should pay $450 more instead of getting Sharp Aquos V.
oh yeah, exactly the type of phone I was looking for. Kinda too pricey tho. @the manufacturers, please try to come up with one that costs less. Focus on the camera/display tech less if that helps to drop the price. If you attach any camera at all, make it more videography oriented instead of photography
SD835, 3200mAh, curved screen, and that price.. it's like they deliberately wanted to do everything wrong. It's Librem all over again. Paying a premium just because it's a novelty.
We need this. Android, in so many ways, fails. It needs desktop level controls, apps and capability. A phone computer professionals would own.
But, they should get a flagship chipset from a cheap manufacturer, for a $300 flagship in future, and the best 4k or more image sensor for professional video. If you can not take professional level video of your friends wedding, it's not enough.
For those complaining about specs this phone phone is rebranded version of fx tec pro 1 which was launched in the early 2019 with Android 9
