Arthur Morgan, 03 Nov 2020Why tf google even bother making phones? They are so terrible at it. Smartphone business is no... moreTotally agree
Google is sending me my refurbished pixel 5 now . My review of pixel 5 so far . The worst phone I've ever owned.

So sweet
What impact will this slowing down of the chip have over the life of the phone?
I am using the pixel 5 for a few weeks now and it feels quick, but reading this leaves me concerned with how it might perform in a year or two from now.
Syn, 04 Nov 2020Let's see, I have had Dark mode in my Oxygen OS since 2016. I have had Screen Recorder op... moreThese sound like awesome features! If you use them daily - that is great!
Me, I tried some of them, like changing music by tapping on the phone twice, and it seemed great till I switched from LG to Samsung and found out I can live without them. I didn't go back to LG for this feature, I just cleaned up my music library so I don't need to switch songs that often.
In the end I decided to learn to use primarily stock android features - things that should be available in any android phone, making it easier to switch. Although I don't switch phones as often as I used to.
I don't find stock skin to be a drawback, more like "basic set of features". Extras are cool if you find them useful but not a game-changer or a deal-breaker.
Hahaha, my cheapo POCO X3 is doing better than the Pixel 5.
It is weighed down by the Google Services crap.
Benchmark stats is only for bragging. And people who read this and brag don't even know what those mean. Over the course of the phones life Pixels outperform all other OEMs. Take this article with a pinch of nothing.
I had mine for less than 24 hours and felt it was a piece of crap so I returned it. Battery Life is poor. My phone from 2.5 years ago I get 2 days out of this one was losing 10% an hour and I'm not a heavy user. Should only be a $200 phone instead it's 999AUD. I got a real me x3 it sh*Rd all over the pixel 5.
Actually makes me want to buy a pixel 5 even more. It's quite affordable, compact, great battery, has a potent camera. What more do you need?
This means nothing. My Pixel 5 works great and is buttery smooth. Most of us won't care about this argument. Great, solid phone.
Yuri84, 03 Nov 2020What features are you talking about, exactly?Let's see, I have had Dark mode in my Oxygen OS since 2016. I have had Screen Recorder option baked into my quick toggles since 2018. I have had in almost every phone I owned since 2014, the ability to do off screen gestures and open apps like camera, turn on flashlight and music controls without the need to turn my screen on. The ability to clone apps like WhatsApp and allowing us to run 2 instances on the same device (so you can have a work number and personal number running side by side)have been there for ages in most custom skins. Gaming mode has been present in most custom skins since 2017. Then there is the QR code to share wifi password so you don't need to give out your actual password to people if they need to connect to your hotspot. And then there is my personal favourite, the scrolling screen shot, which means I can take screenshots of pages , mails, chats with just one action instead of having to depend on multiple seperate screenshots. That has been there since 2017 too iirc. So there you go. Just a few of the ones off the top of my head. There is many more out there if you care to look it up. Being on stock android is kinda like being on iOS. You get features that most people have had in their phones years later and then suddenly you can't live without it while still acting like stock android is the best and you don't need the features of other skins...
I purchased this phone because it had a bigger battery and a more efficient chipset.
I've boycotted every other pixel/nexus device and hate overpowered inneficient handsets.
I don't want a powerful phone. I want a phone that lasts all day, has a good camera and has good ram management.
Acknowledge their shift in strategy.
Geekbench scores are useless in the real world.
Because the battery of Google Pixel is too small
and Google power management is not as good (aggressive) as the chinese brand.
So, google lower the speed of the phone.
which make me don't want google pixel even more.
I've had this beauty 3 days now and notice no lag. This is a great phone. The over all experience is wonderful. The camera rocks. The size is comfy. These articles mean nothing to everyone but the geeks.
I mean who actually cares - I'm not trying to find an upgrade from an Samsung s20.... people buying the phone that have most likely had the same phone for 2-5 years will be experiencing a major upgrade either way
Good, so google finetuned the cpu management to draw less power from the battery. Excellent choice because the 765 cpu will run the stock android OS still fluently.
Show me any apps that don't run well on it. There's no need for top of the line performance when nothing stresses it much.
best phone i ever had. the only thing i would fault google is using same old camera sensor, instead of upgrading to more performant and new ones, and competition has cought up or even surpassed. still really good. and i get almost 4 days out of it.
why would i pay 1000+ for a bit of extra performance that i will never use? or ever notice? just for bragging rights??
apparently gsma forgot that this isnt the first time google downclocking their phones
