I had the same problem with my Pixel 3 but Google said it was not covered under the warranty I would have to have it fixed independently. I bought a Pixel 4 XL and so far it's working okay. I also own a Pixel Slate tablet with the same problem.
Anonymous, 04 Nov 2020Partially agree with that because my LG G5 still alive after using 3+years. No IP rating at al... moreRespect for keeping a G5 running for that long.
I broke mine through changing the battery too often, it was so loose the PCB moved causing restarts.
Another great idea from LG that was just a bit poorly implemented.
I've had my Pixel 5 for over a week now. Mine had no gap when I unboxed it and still no gap now after being dropped multiple times. Maybe just a bad batch?
You're paying $700 and you will get this kind of horrible defect. WTH. overpriced, slow, boring, feeble, and defective desing. pfffttt..
I think they've glued the cover on with snot. They must have a cold so it doesn't stick much. hahahahahha!
Part of the desing? :D Maybe sometimes are drunked in Montain View? Pay more than 600 Euros in a phone that stands up as a toy phone cover? The world has gone mad, it's like the Samsung S20 FE that has issues on the screen and tries to fix them with updates when it's clearly a poor quality screen material. A hardware fail, like this. Fail! Fail!
Part of the design? Then why is it the gap isn't in the same spot for all the Pixel 5. Why are some without gaps? 🤔

WendyU, 04 Nov 2020I have a Motorola G7 play and it has a gap as well. I have literally zero problems with it.
D... moreAa much as I agree with you, if there is money involved, complaints of imperfections will comes along with it. And we know that we can't take a look of the product that we want to buy like buying a shirt or shoes.
Someone should see and record a proof if that small gap will make bubbles when submerged into its IP designation. Then people can have their rights.
who the f*** cares if it has no impact on water resistance and stuff?? it looks like s**t and needs to be addressed. my unit looks flawless, but i would ask for a replacement right away if it would have had that ugly gap. don't want to replace it? refund! as much as i like my pixel 5, WTF google?? taking the p[iss much?? such a petty move if google doesn't want to replace the units
I have a Motorola G7 play and it has a gap as well. I have literally zero problems with it.
Did these people not look at the item or at least pictures of the item that they were buying?
This is an excellent example of First World problems. Bunch of spoiled, whiny babies.
A car works even after an accident, but i wouldn't want to drive it like that...
Anonymous, 04 Nov 2020i don't disagree, and i didn't say phone is worthless without ip rating the thing i... moreI totally agree, but the issue is in fact how we overrate how effective IP rating is, even when the phone is protected as the IP rating intend to, which is often not the case, it is way less effective than most peoples think it is.
Kobi, 04 Nov 2020The problem is beyond water resistance, over time the gap may increase and cause more problems... moreThat I totally agree with, but Google proved more than enough times now that being one of the biggest company of the world, having a lot of funds and being the one who own Android OS doesn't make you able to make good phones, there is many things wrong with Google phones.
I'd hate to have a defect like that, I just find it stupid that everything is about water resistance nowadays while liquid protection other than what come with a decently build phone is totally useless for the vast majority of users.
I mean it is even used as an excuse to not put the pop up camera, despite the fact that if you compare any IP67/IP68 rated phone with any phone with a pop up sold around the same volumes, the IP rated phones is almost guarantee to be the one with the most reports of water related damage, simply because IP rating cause uneducated use of phones by peoples thinking they have a submarine.
