can't believe the 'new' Macbook Air looks just like my 2011 model. 9 years in tech is a LONG time... and that Macbook of mine already died 3 yrs ago!

They are serious about this arm thing, unlike Microsoft. I may be wrong but knowing apple, they don't invest much in something unless they are sure that it will be succesfull.

Anonymous, 10 Nov 2020Macs have the size for better thermals, bigger battery. So the chip will scale up accordingly.... moreExactly, it's expected that the new MBP will come with even more powerful variant of A14/A14X - Instead of 2 or 4, it will come with 8 performance cores which I personally believe to be also clocked higher than those two due to higher heat dissipation capacity of a laptop form factor.

Have you seen iOS apps? Are iOS apps designed for mouse cursor with high density hotspots to click or are they simpler user interfaces for large hotspots to poke with thick finger tips? Only one naive guy can dream such compatibility. Yes not difficult to run iPadOS on an iPad with keyboard bound aka MacBook Pro ARM but you only will get an iOS gross app in a larger screen like an ugly iPhone app zoomed in a larger iPad. Not useful, it will be a flop, big regrets like the Universal Windows Platform (UWP) apps = failure, sad history.

As for microsoft, the lack of Arm apps, no windows phone platform, makes little sense to go arm.

Nick Tagataka, 10 Nov 2020I'm definitely interested in seeing CineBench scores from those new ASi-powered Macs. Gee... moreMacs have the size for better thermals, bigger battery. So the chip will scale up accordingly.

Big Sur initial testing shows awesome internal gpu performance. But bad egpu performance. Hope they continue to improve external gpu..

Many believe that the Apple chip macs would be cheaper that’s the intel ones and still as fast or faster than intel. That means it may be possible to get a Mac Pro for less than 1000 dollars.

I'm definitely interested in seeing CineBench scores from those new ASi-powered Macs. GeekBench 5 already showed some promising results from A14X, but first of all it's still a tablet chip that will not be used for Macs, and the most importantly CB reflects chips' real life CPU performance much better than GB does.

Anonymous, 10 Nov 2020this is very true, I really don't understand what went wrong with microsofts attempts? T... moreOne of many reasons Microsoft is reluctant about going all out with Windows on ARM is that unlike Apple they (need to) value backward compatibility. There are still many ancient 2000/XP-era software that are used by bunch of companies (especially those inside embedded devices/database systems) and moving onto ARM architecture entirely would result in bunch of those apps completely broken and not running at all or plagued with bugs that would never get fixed by the original developers.

And of course, being less passionate about one project means less R&D will be spent for that particular project, hence their failed attempt.

the developer kit mac mini with an 2 years old chip is far better than any 2020 win10 arm device , like surface pro x etc
