Also, many cheaper Androids still have more useful features that Apple doesn't.

You are commenting on article that lists the iPhone SE as having over 10 million units shipped and you have the audacity to say only a small minority want 5.5" screen (the SE has a 4.7'!)? When it was the second highest selling phone in Q3?

But it's not a tiny "majority" that wants smaller phones, it's still around 20% of the people according to polls. That means a lot of millions of people. And that means that brands shouldn't ignore this niche. Plain and simple.

Just plug and play seamless connectivity that is not possible with restricted iOS which lacks basic file management.
And that update you receive 5 years later is also an illusion especially when you are getting features 10 years late. Android is light years ahead of iOS in every way.
Android from 5 years back can do things current iPhone can't.
Plus with every subsequent update, your battery and cpu are deliberately slowed down by Apple whereby one is forced to upgrade after a few years.

Nothing to be proud of unless you are a stockholder! Android customers never bother about which of their OEMs makes more money.
For the business it may be relevant but for a One Year Technology that gets obsolete in few 2-3 years customers don’t bother much for investing $300 - $600 in the Android and yet they get the maximum value for their money, freedom to upgrade anytime without having to worry about blowing their wallets.

People have got accustomed to bigger screen size in 2020.
Only a tiny majority wants to go back to 5.5 inch screen size especially when you consider that phone footprints haven't ballooned up compared to 2017.
In 2017, people were comfortable with 3000-3500mah batteries, as that was the maximum capacity available on a flagship, now 4500mah-5000mah batteries are standard and people have got use to it. Same with fast charging, big sensor cameras and same with screen size.
Just Coz people were comfortable and happy with 5.5 inch screens doesn't mean that is the case today.

Apple is basically listening to customers even more with the iPhone 12. OLED display, 5G were things that the entire tech base wanted.
Removal of charger just means that apple knows that the people who want a phone mostly already have a phone.

The only issue with making phones compact is the ommison of features and smaller battery.
