Using Arm isn't a bad option, but it won't be a decent performance.
i guess all macbooks won't be pro grade performance. and the Mac desktop will sell more if it had intel or AMD cpu.

Ali Othman, 12 Nov 2020why not switch to AMD which is better than intel? At the time these decisions would have been made AMD was abysmal. Apple's dependence on outside vendors for core components has bitten them repeatedly - IBM's Power supply issues, Intel's laggardly approach to Core in absence of competition and their difficulties transitioning beyond 14nm, NVidia's GPU fiasco, AMD's inability to effectively compete on the GPU front (until now..?). With this change they have only themselves or their fab to worry about.

imparanoic, 10 Nov 2020Isn't 2.6tflops a bit weak in performance for 2020, compare to PlayStation 4 pro released... more"fastest *integrated* GPU" (my emphasis) - the competition in this case would be AMD Vega 11, though it's possible they're comparing it to Intel Iris Plus G7.

The day when ARM & Linux rule the world ... when?
:-) It's time for some competition in the consumer desktop/laptop space.

Arm on a pc?? It's just like an Ipad with keyboard attached to it. Although it's slightly more powerful(?), but I think the industry is not ready for the change. Most pc apps are running in x86 or x64. Arm are known for their simple task things such as things they can do with their phone or tablet. I still can't see the M1 chip used as a professional chip because I think it's limited to the architecture. You can't play x86 games or apps, and that's a lot of em.

haydoss, 11 Nov 2020Yes, its kinda weak but its pretty crazy for a 10W SOC that shares a CPU and GPU. to put this ... moreThat means that apple can cool the chip more, therefore clocking it higher without loosing as much power.

The performance boost doesn't at all come from the ARM architecture, it comes ONLY from the 5nm process, which is of course much better than intel's 10 nm.
