Well, the 10W TDP does not mean that the chipset (if it counts for the whole chipset, which I seriously doubt, since GPU is discussed separately) consumes just 10 W at full speed. So the comparison is absolutely out, but that's the power of Apple marketing.
Zero, 10 Nov 2020I have to agree that GPU wise is underwhelming, but considering that this is their true 1st PC... moreIt's not underwhelming when you consider that the Soc draws like 10W and that kind of performance at 10W is very impressive, the 1050ti is comparable in tflops, but it draws 75W, if apples claims are real then hats off to them, very impressive performance per watt
Anonymous, 10 Nov 2020Thats pretty weak for todays tech, apple just doesnt got it like intel will always 😂It is weak when compared to GPUs that themselves consume over 100w of power but compared to stuff that draws 10W of power which the M1 does it's very much impressive
NOUFAL, 10 Nov 2020Seems next ipad pro can run Final cut pro X Even the current one can, the dtk was a A12z chip inside a mac mini chassis and apparently that thing did good, the only question that remains is is apple going to develop final cut for the ipad
Android Authority, 11 Nov 2020No matter how much optimized the hardware and software combo is, Macs and gaming can't ex... moreIt can easily coexist if there's a market for it, if there's a market, developers will port their games over to Mac OS simple as that and with the M1 if Apples figures are to be believed it's gonna be the most capable Mac for gaming with integrated graphics ever, but you know only independent reviews will tell the whole story
Rzr, 11 Nov 2020No, at least not without a VM or some sort of compatibility layer that apple will likely not p... moreGuess you weren't watching the keynote, they have Rosetta 2 which according to them translates apps for intel into ARM based apps at install time, that goes for 99% of mac apps, the exceptions are the ones that have kernel extensions and VM apps, these will need to have a native app
Great promises being made, need to wait for few months for its performances in real life conditions...and it's limitations
I saw a lot of marketing , nothing real life . I trust that is a good performer , but if the results was so good , that didn`t stopped Apple to show them to the world . Either the product isn`t finished or it has flaws , either the performance is on par with older i5 CPUs but with better graphics (which was expected) and better life for the battery . You cannot have all of them .
Looks Good, but let's wait for real world benchmarks of running translated instruction set software from some other entity than Apple.
It'll be interesting to see what desktop based future Apple chips with higher TDP will be able to pull off, esp once the apps are natively compiled in the future.
Android Authority, 11 Nov 2020No matter how much optimized the hardware and software combo is, Macs and gaming can't ex... moreYou literally read a post and the point flew right over your head. I wasn't even talking about games, I was just talking about tight integration between software and hardware and what kind of big difference it can make compared to generic approach and just using brute force.
imparanoic, 10 Nov 2020Isn't 2.6tflops a bit weak in performance for 2020, compare to PlayStation 4 pro released... morewith 10w tdp?
imparanoic, 10 Nov 2020Isn't 2.6tflops a bit weak in performance for 2020, compare to PlayStation 4 pro released... moreactually they compare it to the rest in 10W...that is a "weak" area for the "pc" chips...if they get same result vs let's say intel i7-1165g7 (still 10nm) than is game on... but MacBook with 10W? it's gonna be like network with Intel atom cpu...
Either apple is breaking the laws of physics or they are plainly obfuscating facts. If you compare previous years 14/12 nm cpu with a 5 nm process then, you are bound to get such results... Come on Apple, why don't you accept ARM is NOT suitable for PC workloads. One has to resort to ×64 instruction set and stop fooling everyone.
That too you have dedicated space for neural engine which will not help in general purpose usage or benchmarks...
arm cpu is not for pcs and laptops, intel is the only who can make a quality cpu, failure of this product is sure
shaantalk, 10 Nov 2020Is there any way to know that how these chips do compared to the performance of i7 10th gen ( ... morethe MBP16 is probably still better by virtue of it being Intel's best(?) in a massive machine and having a dedicated Radeon GPU. Probably why apple didn't make a new MBP16 with the M1.
imparanoic, 10 Nov 2020Isn't 2.6tflops a bit weak in performance for 2020, compare to PlayStation 4 pro released... moreAn integrated GPU performing better than a discrete GPU is a huge improvement.
it'z so fast it'z transcendental.. u can be transported to the quantum world just by touching it :-)
imparanoic, 10 Nov 2020Isn't 2.6tflops a bit weak in performance for 2020, compare to PlayStation 4 pro released... moreYes, its kinda weak but its pretty crazy for a 10W SOC that shares a CPU and GPU. to put this into contrast, the GTX 1050Ti roughly consumes 75W
imparanoic, 10 Nov 2020Isn't 2.6tflops a bit weak in performance for 2020, compare to PlayStation 4 pro released... moreIt's just enough, cuz this isn't an external GPU it's a integrated one.
imparanoic, 10 Nov 2020Isn't 2.6tflops a bit weak in performance for 2020, compare to PlayStation 4 pro released... moreYou cant compare the dedicated gpu with integrated gpu, looks m1 tdp just 10w. 2.6 tflops for igpu is very impressive
