Google is just like any other company out there seeking for more profit. Trash.
Arggghhh, it's time to ditch my Pixel phones ... I have Google One as well.
Better phones around for the money Google charge for their meh hardware.
Just pay for Google One & skip Google hardware.
I don't mind, really. I pay $2 a month for Google One since I'm a pro photographer, and my Note 20 Ultra and Tab S7+ have plenty of space for editing photos and video
Everyone knows thats happens one day.Thats why no one use this most secure storage is one drive where we can save our every data
Wongwatt, 12 Nov 2020Did that SSD company have a magical shrink ray? The die size for a desktop SSD IC is bigger t... moreIt is okay that you choose not to believe but this is how it is done. The SSD used in laptop are considering premium with lots of external electronic components and some even come with DRAM. Did you know thay? Those SD card, they have the dedicated MCU package inside the ic package. All the wiring can be done inside the ic package. But if you need to make it as standalone NAND, then you need everything wire out. Most of them have standard footprint and ofcz they can be even smaller but this simply increase the assemble cost and failure rate. Well, have 20+ years old so call EE experience doesn't mean knowing everything.
Shanti Dope, 12 Nov 2020I simply don't understand how your SD cards get corrupted in just a few years. I've ... moreIf you work in solid state technology firmware, you will know how heavy the recovery algorithm they are using compare to our old time HDD. From the user experience, you can't feel the background task like wearing level management are consistently working on. The corruption start to surface up when the spare storage has been used up. We do a lot of ssd cell analysis and found out that page corruption occurred but most of them get recovered. So the reliability is really based on the firmware not the SD cell inside. As I said, the latest SSD technology going towards 4 bits per cell that makes the cell even less reliable and how good your firmware is, you can't stop those paged corrupts. This are the technology behind and most people don't know how the ssd technology works.
Case in point, I may have to start saving up on a NAS server so my devices on VPN can access files. It's pricey but it will last forever and then I won't care AS much about internal storage.
I still prefer microSD in case I'm on a flight or something.
Nick, 11 Nov 2020or buy a Samsung galaxy device or any other android device that offers an expandable storage. ... moreNo way I would go for Samsung. I prefer the external solution to Samsung OS version. I can transfer photos once a year on NAS as well, that is an option for me.

well that was expected since google joined alphabet .... their strategy diverted from innovation to profits .... alphabet strategy was clear from the very beginning kill all innovative projects and focus only on profits ..... and they are doing their best to kill google .... soon huawei and other companies will launch and strength their services and they will take over the market from google .....
r33fd, 12 Nov 2020Sounds good, but who would pay for the servers though? I wasn't referring to the hosting part, just to the general bad actions from Google, obviously such open source replacement wouldn't have any free hosting, except if it is financed through ads but then it would start to get into less-than-ideal territories...
It would be better to have something without free hosting that stay that way than one who give you free hosting and then suddenly take it from you, also privacy wise it is better.
Anonymous, 12 Nov 2020Please stop using SD cards. You do not deserve them.Come back and say the same thing again when all phones are having at least 512GB of internal storage.
Anonymous, 12 Nov 2020Please stop using SD cards. You do not deserve them.Thank you, I will, your highness. Any other advice for the unwashed masses?
Shanti Dope, 12 Nov 2020You must have been the unluckiest person in the world when it comes to SD cards then.
Assumin... moreThank you for calling me stupid and undeserving. If you took the time to research a bit online, you would see that it's a real issue, that other people also have. I have cheap SD cards that have lasted for 10 years and expensive ones that have failed within 1 or 2.
It's a lottery that I'm not willing to take part in. You only need to lose photos once during a trip to realize that you need several backups. Or that car DVR? Yeah, the files from 3 days ago were corrupted, even though they looked fine in a folder and copied without errors.
Mr A, 12 Nov 2020How to encrypt 😞I'm using "SSE File/Text Encryption & Password Vault" from "Paranoia Works" it's open source and available on Android, iOS, Windows, Linux and Mac OS there's also web based encryptor if you don't like installing the app on your devices.
File archiver like Zip, RAR or 7zip also provide file encryption it less advanced than SSE but for average user it will be enough for to prevent unauthorized users see your files.
