What is it with you peddling your brand fanaticism on every apple or ios themed article that appears on this site, you think any one is going to consider your views anything other than fanboy delirium?
Yes it's a bit silly that Apple add night mode the the zoom lens and then not use that lens in low light situations, bad Apple and all that. They are hardly alone in this particular case though, similar such behaviour can be found in numerous Android device's.
I think they should all either include telephoto cameras that are up to low light photography or not bother. Oh and to the Android oems I'd also add a bit about quitting with that depth and macro nonsense, they ain't fooling anyone!

When it come to the urgency to use phone in an emergency state or in quick manner, Iphone is the ultimate winner...
So let me get this right: The 2.5x telephoto camera will only work if there is enough light and will resort to the main camera's digital zooming technique if there isn't enough light. Hmmm... I may as well just use a third-party camera app like Filmic Pro or Moment Pro or Halide to force the telephoto camera to work all the time.
Jesus everyone here can cry harder. If you like apple that's fine, if you like android that's fine, some of you are really making this out to be a world war. I'd you want thousands of niche features then try android, if you're looking for straight benchmark performance then apple is the one topping the charts there. Theres my two cents on this whole radioactive thread. Besides, this is supposed to be talking about night mode cameras and everyone's going off here on tangents that have nothing to do about cameras. Grow up you entitled babies.

Consistent updates in iOS give enormous confidence? More like false confidence of getting updates with features which existed on Android years back.
Jumping around different OEM doesn't get complicated for typical user. Infact it offers choice which is why 80% marketshare is for Android. The typical user picks Android every time as they know they'll get a great experience at every price point in year 2020 without the shortcomings of a particular feature or good design not being there because of lack of choice among iOS based phones.
OnePlus and Samsung are miles ahead of iOS in terms of ui and functionality.
Telephoto camera on iPhone is a joke and beyond 5 meters it offers no advantage.. Android flagship with 5x-10x optical zoom for photos and videos get the user exactly what they want without having to get closer to the subject.
PhoenixFirebird, 13 Nov 2020I'm an android user but I'm starting to prefer iPhones for the long term. Android is... moreDoes it have expandable storage.
Does it have seamless connectivity with multiple devices?
Does it have full featured customizations?
Does it have true multitasking?
Where can I watch Netflix and text a friend at the same time? Or take notes while watching a YouTube video or live translate words from picture/text while doing whatever other activity on the side screen, then we'll talk about value and functionality.
Androids are true daily drivers when it comes to productivity, multitasking, full featured functionality, security and privacy in your own hands and just an overall workhorse. It's not handicapped like iOS devices.

Android is... moreThough Android is overall superior to iOS still iOS fluid nature plus it's App support and consistent OS updates & support gives enormous confidence for the typical user. Jumping around different Android OEM implementation may be fine for tech savvy users but typical users get lost in adopting to different UI style and features, functionalities in Android devices. Google to alleviate this problem working closely with Samsung and OnePlus to give consistent UI experience but still they can't match iOS in that. I feel Telephoto camera in mobile phones are nothing but joke and no useful photography can be achieved with its zoom lenses. They are good in taking pictures within 5 meter range, Street photos, portrait, pet, kids etc...beyond that seriously debating on mobile phone cameras won't be fair. The optics have its limitations. Look at the size of the sensors and its large lenses in DSLR & mirror less.

Android is good if you've enough money to buy yearly. But for iOS it's better to be used for about 3 years. People would argue that android also get good software support these days. But the main problem is third party support both accessories and software. It's really a burden to find accessories for a 2 year old android phone.

Because the lens offers a 2,5x zoom, your handshaking will be multiplied by roughly 2.5 times. If you zoom to 10x you can see some shaking, although your hand seems to bee holding still. There is still too much motion for night mode. you need a much better OIS than on the wide angle lens
You know how Apple works, the night mode for the telephoto is reserved for the Iphone 13 Pro Max! Because they'll need the justification to charge more money because "it's AN ADVANCED NEW FEATURE". Hahaha!

Or even better, nobody needs a phone which only the back glass costs almost half of the phone's price.
