Why would anything change though? This is clearly just a test run of the new silicon, replacing the SoC and that's it. This is a first-gen product and it's already rivaling the top of the line offerings from the other side. Just wait.

The performance of the M1 - even if it is somehow insanely powerful - ... moreHmmmmmmm it can play all the popular games.. WOW / SC2 / GuildWars2 / Diablo 3 .. etc etc. Steam still works.
Now it can play iOS games.. and it will get even better as time goes on.
Whats with no games..?
Controversial Opinion:
The performance of the M1 - even if it is somehow insanely powerful - won't mean anything if you can't game on mac anyways.
abigfanoftechs, 21 Nov 2020Are USB cables upgradeable on these new Macbooks? :pThey're using Lightning ports like other Windows laptops, right? So any cable can just work if it's the right format.

Lasuto, 20 Nov 2020The raw power is amazing, yes, but sadly it'll be useless, at least for gaming. Not until... moreSoon iOS games will work on the M1 powered Mac at least. Whether the devs want to support it is their choice. I think there has been a few already.

Lasuto, 21 Nov 2020Hard to say. The current M1 chip was pitted against 1050ti, which is outdated and doesn't... moreHow many people realistically game on Macs? Some do some casual light gaming, but for the most part the chip just needs to be capable of running high resolutions, accelerate video and be capable of running basic 3D. Yet after checking some Youtube videos of people testing games on M1 based Mac, they mostly get actually very impressive framerate. Sure, some get only 20-30fps on Ultra settings, but we're talking very new and demanding games like Shadow of Tomb Raider or Borderlands 3. Games that even dedicated graphic cards are struggling with. Then there are a lot of other games that run at around 45-60fps and beyond. And we aren't talking ancient games, maybe just few years old ones that are still relatively demanding and run like crap on most integrated graphics even today. And to make it even more impressive, all this through Rosetta 2 translation layer. Games that were never even designed to run on ARM achieve that, imagine if they were specifically written for ARM (M1). One can be an absolute Apple hater, but you have to acknowledge this is impressive. I'm an avid Windows user since the 90's and have had basically only mid or top tier hardware running it and this impresses me hugely.
Lasuto, 21 Nov 2020Hard to say. The current M1 chip was pitted against 1050ti, which is outdated and doesn't... moreIt's still fairly impressive given this chip has to operate within 10 to 15W of power and has no external GPU paired with it. The higher-end SoCs they will release next year along with the rest of the MBP lineup will pack more oomph in graphics performance, that's for sure.
Nick Tagataka, 21 Nov 2020And that situation might finally change.Hard to say. The current M1 chip was pitted against 1050ti, which is outdated and doesn't have enough power to run AAA games at medium settings. Apple needs to have more powerful gpu, one that can at least rivals GTX 1650 or even 1660 series. The potential is there though.

RD, 21 Nov 2020They should've made this an iPad with macOS... Why waste so much power efficiency on a laptop? It would be useful in laptop. I use my laptop 12+ hours a day at work. It would be so useful to not have to plug it in again. Maybe the next iPad Pro will have it?
Lasuto, 21 Nov 2020Obviously because no proper games are available for them. And that situation might finally change.
sadh, 20 Nov 2020But then again, no one really bought a macbook for gamingObviously because no proper games are available for them.
Not even a heat pipe on the air? Even some phones need heat pipes. This is no different. Watch as it thermally throttles.
