CptPower, 08 Dec 2020If Moto G can have SD865 why it cant have SD888. Because it's a midrange device. Product line segmentation.

It's much better to use last-year flagship chipsets rather than latest midrange chipset. The flagship chipsets are designed to be the best possible, and that factor doesn't change in one year. (unless you compare it to the next-gen flagship chipset)

Hopefully more companies will go with this approach going forward. Imagine a OnePlus Nord 2 with SD865 next year for the same price?

Really why do you need so much power in a phone? I am not against the evolution, but people going crazy like this is just stupid. Every year we keep hearing about faster processors and better cameras, but nowadays the processors and cameras are already good enough for daily use, even overpowered I would say. There are other areas that makers should improve, like the battery, audio (wired and wireless, only LG keeps putting some good DACs in their phones) and so on..

Whatever you do Motorola, don't ever lose the 'chop chop flashlight' feature. The single most important and the best feature built into a smartphone on the planet!

Knowing that there are probably the same people who constantly oppose anything other than punch holes, that are now crying about double punch hole, is a beautiful irony.

I think that Motorola is a bit late with this phone, this was the phone for the second half of 2020, not 2021. SD 775G (or however is called) is around the corner and it will probably offer performance close to 865 with decreased power consumption. Motorola has a chance now to make something good for the reasonable price.
