The Samsung semiconductor division does not have to bend to the will of the smartphone division, especially as smartphones aren't particularly profitable compared to semiconductor manufacturing. That's why you see Apple trying to cover more of the price range in the smartphone market as software is far more profitable.

Same for the Pixel series.
Small sensor simply can't compete with big sensors.

Can someone explain to me why Samsung abandoned the variable aperture? I mean I knew it wasn't a big deal but wouldn't working on developing that and improve the software processing ( like apple with smart hdr on video) instead of this bs.

The problem isn't the bump, but the snapdragon processor. Shooting video with 600mp takes a lot of power and creates a ton of heat.

I don't understand, is it required to have higher megapixel camera to achieve 8k video recording, or 8k video recording can be achieved from large (1/0.52" what they are making) 12 mp sensor.

God, this will be a pure nightmare if it turns out to be true. Of course I appreciate the increased sensor size, but 600MP? Like, why? It must be good for marketing but will never help improving the image quality.

Anonymous, 06 Dec 2020A sincere note to anyone crying their heart out in this discussion: Remember that GMSarena is ... moreEducating is very important lest the intelligent become minorities.

Nokia for example, had their Symbian ecosystem destroyed because despite the fact that some of us privacy conscious individuals purchased Nokia phones till the very end, we became minorities who had no say anyhow.
The market listens to us, but not when multi billion dollars are pledged towards standardisation of the world where there's just no choice.
