Apple made an agreement with QC for 5 years of modem supplies (which is a lot of money that Apple is not going to thrown away). If anything, you can expect Apple-made LTE modems in low volume things like the apple watch.
Article quote, "Apple’s intentions were clear since it acquired Intel’s modem business back in 2019. Intel initially planned to compete with Qualcomm in the 5G space..."
Intel unveiled its first 5G modem (XMM 8160) back in November 2018, but then cancelled it and sold off the 5G modem
Anonymous, 11 Dec 2020Was that supposed to be sarcastic? He was being sarcastic.
that being said, Apples R&D budget is only around 12 BILLION $ Dollars which is significantly leder than Samsung and Huawei but every product they put out is a success after success after success.
Apple has the Midas touch.

How will they solve the issues of patents on radio communications? Just steal it as always? They still owe Ericsson many billions of dollars in unpaid license fees, and they refuse to pay because they know American courts will always side with Apple over European companies.
AnonD-454049, 11 Dec 2020Considering how much they spend on R and D, it'll be laughable if it happens againIf they actually spent on R&D, they'd be the most innovative company on the planet.
They can sideline a nice fat budget for R&D, but they don't.
Everything goes in as profits and stays there.

apple purchased INTEL's 5G modem business a year ago. Apple acquired the majority of Intel’s smartphone modem business for $1 billion, and that billion dollar purchase includes around 2,200 Intel employees that will join Apple, and Apple acquired the IP and equipment from Intel as well. So, that means it's time to use the modem technology they bought from Intel.

Bought both an iPhone and an iPad , ended hating them both for IOS. IPhone battery was pathetic too.
Qualcomm will soon lose a huge business partner they took to court. Apple won’t let others bully them, good for them.
