waiting for a flagship with smaller footprint The sizes are 6.1 for the S21, 6.7 for the S21+, and 6.8 for the S21 Ultra. Sadly no smaller phone, the S21 will be the smallest of the lineup.
I was hoping that the iPhone 12 Mini, which is the epitome of small flagship, would do well causing other manufacturers to make smaller flagships, but sadly the 12 Mini was the worst seller of the bunch. I personally love large phones, but phones like the first iPhone SE and the Galaxy S10e feel refreshing.

It's a boring design, but not a bad one. I remember the S5 too, it's design was plastic while everyone else was moving to aluminum or glass, but in turn the back was removable and you got a lot of functionality out of it. The S6 became what people wanted for a phone design, but in turn lost micro-sd support, causing complaints for Samsung to turn around and add support on the S7. I'd rather Samsung not try anything special, this phone will probably be the best seller after all, and it still looks less boring than the S20.
