There are people who buy older i7 laptops, just because it has an i7, not knowing what it even means.
There are people who buy age old macbook air (without retina display, sometimes the 11 inch one) just because it's a macbook. The resellers just want to dispose of the unwanted stock 😑

I don't mind about what Windows OS guys think about MacOS, what I know is that my MacBook Air M1 chipped laptop delivers a performance that cannot be matched easily by most pc's either cheaper or more expensive than the Air and the battery lasts longer than any pc. Just think about this; I was able to browse the Internet, watch YouTube videos and do some light photo editing for 2 hours and 5 minutes on just 10% of battery without any compromise in CPU performance. The typical pc can hardy last 20 minutes on 10% battery and that only on aggressive battery mode. In fact most cheap pcs can hardly last 2 hours on battery starting from 100%.

And no one's undermining the capabilities of the m1 chip or OS X for ARM. What I was doing was comparing an already established OS i.e iOS, it's upgraded brother the ipad OS and the new macbook and the intel based macbook.
The advantages offered by the m1 macbook are limited till they sort out compatibility issues and optimizations. Like I said earlier, a brydge wireless keyboard with an ipad pro would be more useful, at least for the time being.
Now compare it to windows. It's a terrible OS that breaks with almost every single update, but the number of games and applications available for windows is probably multiple times what is available for mac. For people who play visual novels and rts games, macs don't have many options and you needed bootcamp. Now you can't even do that.
M1 might be one of the most favourte devices out there. But so are iphones, ipads and the iwatch. It's not surprising at all to see an apple product being a favourite. Just like it's capabilities can't be denied, you can't deny the fact that it's still in early stages and that it doesn't have much of an advantage compared to ipad pro. And it's very much possible that soon one of the future ipad pros might even run OS X (if Apple can go for a stylus with a touchscreen, then it can make an OS X device with touchscreen. Steve Jobs isn't here anymore.).
So with all that in mind, I still think it's imprudent to be a first gen adopter. (Rosetta 2 is way better than Rosetta according to my friend, but I am still waiting for an M2 or M2X before I make a decision).

W... moreIt's not price performance ratio that matters to the ignorant masses. They buy whatever is dirt cheap. That's the only reason why an OS like windows that breaks with every update is so damn popular. And macs are never going to be 'cheap'.
Just like you have dirt cheap android phones that crawl when you try to use them and there are people who actually buy them, windows would continue to be the most used and abused OS.
And as long as it's popular, game and application development would be skewed towards windows. (And you need to pay yearly to be an apple developer unlike one time payment for android )

Notice the 2 main reasons: IT and price. MacOS will still be behind in IT, but price? Macbooks now have one of the best price to performance ratios ever. And, they have great battery life.

Plus false statements like claiming it can only do web browsing and nothing more, gen 1 products.. fanboys only using etc etc.
Note, this is widely accepted as one of the favourite gadgets to come out of 2020. No point denying that.

And the availability of a wide range of applications and products.
M1 macbook is actually a great deal compared to XPS 13, Spectre etc. But windows is popular because it can be found in much much much cheaper laptops (they maybe absolute garbage in terms of performance) and you can build your own system with windows (or linux). The only option for mac os is to get a macbook, mac mini, or mac pro. With OS X becoming an ARM optimized OS, hackintosh would go extinct as a viable option.
And Mac OS needs to be a minority OS for Apple. The reputation as an elite only OS is one of the reasons for Apple being able to sell their products at high prices. Vanity sells.

When the mac is finallly superior(beats intel in performance and beats AMD ryzen 7 4800h in battery life), you claim that it won't sell.
What doesn't make sense is that if people are actually stuck in an ecosystem, there would be far more IOS users than android, because IOS offers a far better ecosystem.
If people really care about specs more than ecosystem(like you say), the M1 macs should be dwarfing windows laptops in sales.
Your arguments are contradictory because one of them relies on the "ecosystem is best" argument and one relies on the "specs are best" argument.

And I wasn't pointing you out about the ipad pro. I was saying that in general, any person who has an ipad pro wouldn't have any additional benefit from buying a m1 macbook. Buying a brydge wireless keyboard would be enough. (This is bound to change as OS X becomes more ARM friendly like iOS and ipad OS). Like I said, I see no compelling reason for anyone with an ipad pro to get the 1st gen ARM mac. If you bought a macbook with a butterfly keyboard, then yes you can benefit from an upgrade.
The first gen usually is for testing the waters. I feel like the 2nd gen would be a massive upgrade and early adopters are gonna regret because of this when they can't resist the temptation to upgrade again 😂

I said, M1 Mac have iPad features like instant on and long battery life. I did not say i have iPad Pro (Even if i do, does that matter???) nor did it mean it is a glorified iPad. Which is one of the reason people pick up tablets instead of firing up a PC.

They wouldn't know what OS they are using.
Macbook Air with M1 is actually cheaper than anything comparable with better screen and better battery life.
And Macbook pro M1 has an insane battery life.
But both these laptops are in the $1000 range.
Most people (the clueless one's I mentioned earlier) would go for $450-650 price range.
Most of them are tricked into buying machines that are way too old, like laptops with dual core skylake core i7u. They are mislead by the 'huge discount' tags.
For people who actually know how to use their system, they would go for whatever that can actually offer the best price/performance ratio. Even here the majority of buyers would be in the $650-850 range.
Above this class you have an option to buy older macs. Some of the clueless one's would go for the old macbook air (yup the one that doesn't even have a full had screen) that are discounted. Then there is the gaming laptop segment, premium laptops that make you pay intel tax while having more security issues and less performance like XPS 13 or HP spectre, then comes macbooks.
This is just about laptops. Then there is the desktop space.
Most people would go for a windows based pc. Even people with imacs would have windows installed too.
Windows is not all that reliable, but you just get the most number of applications, games etc when you have windows. You have a wide range to select from and the ability to choose what you're familiar with, what you have seen your peers/professors/friends work with.
For example, I think Keynotes is way better than PowerPoint, but most people still use Microsoft office for mac and PowerPoint for lectures.
For gamers, I don't really have to talk about this. Do I?
I am not talking about high end gaming. You could just talk about visual novels or even rts games. There are just not enough developers who dedicate themselves to create for macs. And with Apple making their ecosystem even more of a closed environment, this is unlikely to change. So OS X is never really going to be the most used OS. It doesn't need to, in fact it shouldn't. Because Apple sells more human vanity than their products. Like the pro stand 😂

Apple devices looses support for older versions of MacOS quicker cause it's super easy to upgrade from OS to OS for everybody EXCEPT corporate.
The other 50% will be more than happy to switch to MacOS. I am hard-pressed to find any advantages of windows compared to MacOS besides apps, and ARM macs are getting catalyst and native IOS apps now, so that's basically no longer a benefit.

And rosetta 2 windows apps are as fast as intel core i7 windows apps. the geekbench scores prove it.
Sure, x86 apps are faster on AMD in the short term, but in the long term? Apple ties AMD's 8 core ryzen 7 in performance and beats it in battery life.
