Unless you use bloatware such as itunes.

Android OEMs stop production before they announce next generation.

Having new OS version is too overrated ..

Unlike iPhones, which provides 5 years of iOS upgrade and update ALL iPhones even the oldest one on the same very day as their newest iPhone.

people are no saying it all has to do wth qualcomm, while samsung was using their own exynos and not updating theirphones
they literally use the same processor over and over, yet neglect the old devices
that's where apple reigns, as when they use the same processor, they update all devices with that, regardless of age
when one device with the same processor gets updates but the old one doesnt even with the same processor, that means the company itself shouldnt be supported
James Whister, 17 Dec 2020So does that mean flagships will become more expensive from now on?More Likely!

OEMs just didn't want the cost of developing these updates for more devices. But with slowing sales globally and average consumers caring enough the support should get better & longer.
EDIT: Funny thing is Android 10 is the last OS for S9/Note9 and the first OS for Note10 lite on pretty much identical hardware 😂
A step in the right direction. Hope to see Google, Nokia, Samsung, and OnePlus commit to 4yrs of os updates and 5yrs of security patches.
It's well about time. Lack of updates, especially wrt security, have been a blight on Android's otherwise competitive offering against iOS. I prefer android, but I always recommend iPhones to non-tecnical friends because I know their hw & sw will be properly supported. Perhaps this agonizingly slow shift on the Android side will finally close this major shortfall against their main competitor.
It's frankly shocking how low a priority this has been for Android.
Next step: how about requiring a secure digital vault in silicon for all Android devices to prevent firmware-level attacks? (AFAIK, only Samsung and Apple devices have this).
I am curious if this implementation will be available for the Snapdragon 775 too. Some of the flagship features also get released on mid-range chips.
Of course, it’s still up to the OEM to actually provide those major OS updates…
