Only the Channels will have ads. I do know a lot of news portal site that has their oen Telegram channel, so that's not a surprise.

Anonymous, 23 Dec 2020i hope they dont sell their soul to facebook.They won't, Durov himself said this in his own telegram channel, they are gonna add some advertisements for future costs, but not everywhere in the application, just for public channels.

34SciencePigeon, 23 Dec 2020It is strange that Telegram is Russian and Iran is the friend of Russia, "the messenger i... moreI can (as an iranian) answer you fully and easily, but in one line, they blocked it because of anti-gov movements, also whatsapp and instagram have no proper security so it is very easy to hack them, no matter how much options you activate.
And FB was blocked in 2009, again for another anti-gov movement in that year! Same goes for twitter, line, viber (these last two were unblocked later)
All and all, dictatorship never goes by correct and meaningful methods...

On a server there also can be encrypted data saved, you know that right? I respect Durov and his vision for Telegram, however, unlike Signal, your chats are not encrypted by default and are downloaded from the cloud when you login from a new device. Also, the whole hype about it being banned in Russia felt a bit unnatural and definitely contributed to the apps' popularity. The call quality on Telegram is among the worst with constant hissing, cracking and fast-tracking when you call someone.
I don't want this to look like I don't like the app, I'm just complaining about the aspect of your conversations not being 100% private by design. I do find the option to delete chats for both parties satisfying though xD

Facebook fell out of vogue around 5 years ago and Telegram is still the most widely used "messaging app" now. Instagram comes second.
