You are telling the story *backwards*. Android One started just as a low-cost way to get a serviceable Android experience in the emerging markets, however, it was so *successful* that Google eventually grew that brand into the spiritual successor of the Nexus line mostly for Europe and India (but also for North America). In fact, Google ended up rebranding their low-cost offerings for those emerging markets as "Android Go", and you are likely mistaking the two programs.
There is still demand for Android One, people just aren't willing to pay a premium for the program. Yes, Android One phones are usually more expensive than the same hardware with some other custom stock ROM. That is where Xiaomi has failed spectacularly -- the "official" European customers were left paying premium prices for the Mi A3 driven by the promises that the brand would give it premium support. It was not a flagship by any means, but while gray-imports where sold at nearly 140Eur, the "official" customers were paying nearly 280Eur (at their stores) for the cheapest version of the Mi A3.
There is no recovery from this swindle, those customers cannot trust Xiaomi as a brand ever again.

Nowadays, when Android skins have become better and better, stock android experience is not a selling point anymore, like it was 3-4 years ago. That is the reason people are not buying and not having good opinions on Pixels phones, like they did with Nexus phones.

You guys wanted more choices for better competition and to keep costs down, this is what happens when companies churn out garbage products that consumers gobble up because it's cheap. This is on Xiaomi and it's customers alone.

So by saying that you would rather pay $300 for a $400 dollar phone instead of $400 for and $800 dollar phone shows that you don't care about the actual r&d that goes into a quality device but rather support a copycat who pushes non working models???
Xiaomi is losing its consumers little by little with the neglect and confusion of the various devices launched without any focus. I LOVE AndroidOne's pure Android and I will migrate to Nokia. I was hoping they launch Mi A4, but apparently they are giving a sh*t to us.

Mi A3 has been a great phone for myself. The balance of price and performance is quite excellent. Buts it's the software I truly love and adore. With news no more android one, I will NOT be switching to MIUI. It's rubbish. 4X taught me all I need to know.
Another lost customer Xiaomi.
However I thank you for the Mi A3. 128Gb of memory is awesome. A proper workhorse.
XIAOMI is chasing its customers. Goodluck finding new ones. Planned obsolescence is unacceptable this shytee is too much. Bye bye. 🖕

Xiaomi has some good phones especially considering the price, but honestly MIUI is just garbage. Android One had a great potential for very good phones for a reasonable price, but they destroyed even that. Too bad. Bye Xiaomi.
I have Mi A2 and regret buying it, every update destroys it more and more... Maybe they do it to make you buy MIUI devices but I will never buy any other Xiaomi phone ever again no thanks since Miui is just sh.t.

I won't deny One Action WiFi issues as it's obvious that users report(ed) problems with 2,4G after A10 upgrade (5G is fine).
